Yes, it's a real municipality.
Why? Because France is a very conservative country when it comes to administrative matters. They haven't even been able to merge the municipalities in the large cities yet (which is why the administrative City of Paris is still frozen in its 1860 limits which do not correspond to the real extent of Paris anymore... it's a bit as if NYC was still only the island of Manhattan administratively speaking). When Rochefourchat is left with no inhabitants, I don't know what will happen, maybe the prefect of the department will have to administer the municipality.

drool all you want, the photo is photoshopped and consists of TWO images. The upper half of the image is a shot taken from almost ground level.... then there is a fake fog covering what is in fact ANOTHER photograph taken from the top of a building (apparently, around 50-60 floors tall)
look the buildings on the left, over the horizon (first photo). They are CLOSE to the camera and look HUGE compared to the buildings under the fog... but they are clearly common residential towers no more than 40 storeys tall. on the right, there is a dark building with green/blue glass. you can count the floors... while on several of the "closer" buildings, under the fog, the floors are too small to count. |

Here in Portugal we have the City status (cidade) and Town (vila), and the municipality (that could be a city or a town). The City status is given when a place has more than 8.000 inh or has 2.000+historical reasons+some development/importance in a region.
The Largest City is Lisbon (500.000) The Smallest City is Meda (2.100) The Largest Town is Mem-Martins (70.000) The Smallest Town has about 200 people... there are many.

Legally and administratively speaking, the most populous Japanese city is Yokohama, with the population of 3.6 million.
(Tokyo is not a city, but a group of special districts.) ![]() When we talk about metropolitan areas, the most populous one is obvious. The one that includes Tokyo, Yokohama, and some others. The population 35-39 million. ![]() The least populous city (administratively speaking) is Utashinai in the northern island of Hokkaido, the population 4,759. As the coal mine, the only industry of the city, was closed, the city became nearly empty. ![]() The least populous municipality (city/town/village) is the village of Aogashima, the population 194. The subtropic island belongs to Tokyo Metropolis, though it's 358 km away from the mainland. ![]()
