Only if miracles occur. There are way too many other priorities. Some billions of EUR are needed for healthcare, some - for education facilities, some billions are needed for repair of existing streets, some billions - for the new transport magistrals, some billions - for proper communications (f.e. high voltage electricity links are needed as the Riga city is decentralising) etc. etc. etc.
Only after that and some 20 other expensive needs might come metro. Thus - not in coming 20 years for sure. At the time when most of us will be in pension, if Latvia will develop normally without wars, if demographical situation is not tragic... may be then city will START thinking about metro. Sorry, that's how I see it.

Sorry, but to me this seems to require a very complicated building of the subway which would need to run exclusively underground in drilled tunnels as it doesn't follow any streets. This would make it a whole lot more expensive than a if you use cut and cover where needed.

Yes, I planned it as absolute metro. And thought about where could be most logical to locate lines and stations in order to reach maximum people. Just for fun and didn't get into other details, as we all know it is fantasies in any case.

I believe Riga needs to develop more Tram network than Metro. Some tunnels where tram can go could be useful though. And work like a metro. It is not unusual. No need to reinvest in a new expensive system at first tought.

Sine I'm not the only one who posts their varations of Riga metro, so here are mine (not only metro). These maps are pure fiction that I've made up in about an hour.

Metro

Three lines
1 Imanta - Ādaži
2 Sarkadaugava - Ziepniekkalns
3 Lidosta - Dreiliņi

City Railroad
Since I think fist we need to start using the railroad as a city transport here are my plans

Major cunstructions:
A few new stations (including new central station - Rīga Ziemeļi).
East Ring - Railway from port to current central station (on 11. novembra Krastmala)
West Ring - Railway from station Iļģuciems to Torņakalns (partly constructed as factory railway)
Outer cargo ring - A railway ring to keep heavy cargo trains away from city center (Stations on the cargo ring - Iļģuciems, current railway from Rīga-Ziemeļi to Salaspils, HES, Ķekava, Pļavniekkalns, Baloži - Centrs, Lidosta, Kurzemes prosp.)
And of course North Tunnel (Rail and Road)

Adazi/Baltezers side could be better connected to public transportation with light train that does not exists yet. But make a big P&R parking before entering Jugla and it would fix part of the problem of jams on Brivibas.

Also move the riduly placed Baltezers train station from the middle of nowhere to somewhere

In general, I believe that there is a real work to do at LDZ about train stops.

And I believe also that LDZ should invest in promoting lands around stations for business (like in other countries). Being pro-active!!! Attracting more passengers.

And also keep please the most beautiful stations made of wood. One thread could be done with all the most beutiful railroad stations in Latvia. I would start with the one in Ventspils (like a symbol to save it from not using it).

You are very right, I totally agree with your ideas. But all this is only an inaccessible reality that we can't obtain from the government.

That's second P&R which will be developed in coming years. Let's hope that it will be.

Выкладываю отчет о наших поисках Рижского метро. Как может быть известно участникам форума в Риге в 80-х годах планировалась стройка метро, но проведя множественные пикеты и рефирендумы...народ выступил против закладки строительства. Хотя многие подготовительные работы уже были произведены, выбраны места под станции-переходы, а также создана база метростроя.
Так вот пока не могу особо похвастатся какими нибудь большими успехами в поисках Рижского метро...остается только развеивать мифы и легенды обросшие по некоторым объектам в Риге!
Хотелось бы услышать комменты по увиденым ниже фоткам!!!

Сегодня сидел, расматривал фотки и решил выложить фотоотчет как я со Снупом вскрывал объект!
Скажу я вам дело было не из легких. На все ушло 6 часов. Залезли в 11 вечера вылезли после 5 утра...место нехабарное, но очень обросшее мифами. Поэтому туда и полезли, чтобы на месте все самим проверить! Объект, кто посвящен, узнаете с ходу.

Вот то самое место...место просто обросшее мифами.


Попали на верх очень просто...с помощью раскладной лестницы, которую нам со Снупом так любезно "подогнали" монтеры. Лестница до сих пор на верху вентиляшки так и лежит.

На этом месте сейчас залаз

Немного помучались с решеткой, вырезали кусачками отверстие, отогнули и привязав веревку к швелеру, благополучно (использовали альп снаряжение) спустились вниз. Высота примерно 6 метров.

Там нас ждал тунель

В конце тунеля справа виднеется тех. тунель закрытый решеткой

Пришлось выдирать дюбеля из бетона.
После того как решетка со страшным скрипом отошла от бетона перед нами показался запыленый ракоход.

Тех. тунель

Проползли по ракоходу метров 6-7 попали в тех. камеру с тремя вентиляциоными створками и одной гермодверью задраеной наглухо. Одни створки были возле гермы, вторые в потолке, а третьи напротив тех. тунеля.

Пытались ее вскрыть, но безуспешно. Ибо долбить дверь было стремно (вдруг кто-то запалит), а также камера по габаритам не позволяла разогнатся для удара. Размер гермодвери 1,2 метра. Пришлось разгибать вентиляционые створки и пропихивать туда Снупа.

Вот сюда протиснулся Снуп

Я сначала туда протиснутся не смог...пришлось нам со Снупом раздвигать створки еще шире.
За вент. створками оказалась очень узкое помещение, в котором можно стоять в полный рост, но шириной сантиметров 60 и еще одна гермодверь №2. Также был еще один тех. залаз в следующую такую же камеру с еще одной гермодверью №3, которую в последствии мы стали откупоривать. Еще дальше была камера, в которой герма №4 переделана под вытяжную трубу.

Вот как это выглядело

Чтобы попасть во внутренее помещение, потребовалось не менее двух часов активного вскрытия гермодвери различными инструментами, начиная от верного лома, заканчивая тоненькой проволочкой. Нам повезло, что совдеповскии проектировщики придумали в петлю вставлять штырь, закрепленный сверху на шпунтик. А высококвалифицированые рабочии оставили щель между бетоном и гермой в сантиметр. Сперва удалось вытащить штырек из средней петли, потом из верхней и надавив как следует на дверь Снуп своей длиной рукой открутил ручки на гермодвери №3 и мы взмокшие ввалились внутрь...

Вот здесь он просунул руку и открутил ручки

В помещении оказались различные агрегаты, насосы и электрощитки для управления вентиляцией.
Фото выставлять не буду ибо они не представляют никокого интереса. Скажу только, что через это помещение можно попасть в другие рабочие помещения и даже выйти на улицу!

Также мы нашли помещение монтера, у которого очень странные забавы... ))))


Обследовав все возможные помещения, мы тем же способом вылезли обратно и что самое главное подперли дверь трубой!

Сегодня я покажу вам что находиться за этой дверью



Как-то ночью было решено инфлертоваться сюда 2 диггерами. Спустившись в низ было констатировано что дверь закрыта изнутри... 1 минута размышления и готово, дыра в стене с лева над дверью заделана пенопластом. Прыжок на плечи напарника , 2 дура и мы внутри. Попадаем в пощение забитое вентиляционным оборудованием! Здесь есть классная коллекция старых вещей, в основном советских! А вот того зачем мы сюда пришли нету обидно, теперь легенды вокруг этой ВШ развеяны ...

Ok it's past, but even in Soviet times our architects can made interior - not so Russian - I would say Our metro would bee one of most attractive in Europe - incomparable with Prague or Budapest for sure

If some day - I would glad if Latvian architects can make it again, they have talant in underground sector as it seems.

Indeed, Nneznajka, that's a really superb set of underground pics you shared!! Now it's all clear what that strange structure is standing their for and what is down there, imagine, and that's just in front of Dailes theatre!! Wow, who could even think of such subway path over there!? Still, the most secured and probably dangerous section remains uncovered - Grīziņkalns-Old Riga! But who knows, maybe there are much more of them all around the city! Just hope to discover at least of of them!
