It was removed due to bandwidth reasons. Currently work is happening on the servers (or something).... So hopefully well get it back? |

No wonder I can't find it. That sucks. Bring it back.

Now that the hosting server has been upgraded, can we bring back the search, at least for a trial?

Absence of a search function is really bad, especially when looking for an older thread or making sure a thread does not exist yet before starting it yourself.
How much bandwidth are we talking about anyway? |

Yeah it's been gotten rid of after the upgrade to the detriment of all Skyscraperforumers.

I must admit that, so far, I'm not entirely happy with the recent upgrade. Things take much longer than they used to.
And I still MISS the Search and can't wait to have it back! ![]() On the other hand, of course, do I continue to be filled with hope & confidence in a positive outcome.

A search function would be nice. No. It is essential.

I don't think bandwidth is a problem, but it's server load.
When you're searching through millions of posts for a tiny string of text, it's going to take quite a lot of processing. It has little to do with the version of the software but just the fact that the site is growing. Bandwidth just refers to the amount of data being sent from the server, and that's probably one of the easier things to improve. Takes a lot less processing power.

A very very very crude version would be to go to www.google.com and type:
site:www.skyscrapercity.com followed by what you want to find such as London photos so for e.g. you put the following in the search box: site:www.skyscrapercity.com london photos = http://www.google.co.uk/search?num=1...n+photos&meta= It's not very accurate but it sometimes works for me.
