Thanks Rod1225 for the generous comment! I just purchased TimeOut's The World's Greatest Cities (for the great photos!!) and Manila was ranked 73 of 75!! Just a hair above the least, Johannesburg. Just goes to show how underrated this metropolis is. I have experienced MetroManila firsthand many times, and they were most enjoyable and memorable!

Sorry filcan, can't find (internet) all 75 cities by rank list (I have the actual book) but here are the top ten:

http://www.timeout.com/travel/featur...greatest-cityr

The grading scale is questionable. For instance, Manila scored it's highest in Architecture - 7 (out of 10), but scored poorly on Arts & Culture -2 and Food & Drink - 2.

There is no rank 74. Manila ranked 73 (2nd to last). Above it are Kingston, Jamaica (73) and Sana'a, Yemen (71). Other ranks for comparison (among Asian neighbors) are Kuala Lumpur (66), Jakarta (58), Seoul (48), Hanoi and Bangkok(39), Mumbai (25), Shanghai (16) and Hong Kong (12). Well, at least Manila made the list.

that is VERY ironic.

If there's one thing Filipinos are praised for, its their culture and food. Architecture... seeing as how most of Manila does not really put emphasis on it, is odd to me why it would rank the highest in it.

Bad list IMO. Manila certainly deserves better.

Thanks Jarvijarv for the extra info.

i never regard those rankings seriously. many people from all over the world also would oppose it citing many views. in rankings, countries rated poorly are not always the case. and for the countries rated highly they themselves would often find their nomination inaccurate to some extent.

to rod1225's comment.... thanks. but manila in pictures may seem well organized but in reality the city suffers from VERY POOR urban planning and lets not forget the city endured very great destruction from world war 2.

That makes 2 of us...Give me one survey that says one thing and I can show you another thats says the opossite.

What I am curious to know is how on Earth can Manila get a 2 in Culture and Food?

ROCKWELL, METRO MANILA

I hardly see shots taken from this part of Rockwell

Occupants of these towers benefit from the presence of nearby villages. Why, they also hear the nearby cocks crow!

Entrance to Rizal Tower

Morning is the best time to take shot of the tower from this angle

But not from this angle

Beyond that fenced lot will be the site for Edades

Joyas are beautiful

They should call that the skybridge

I'd like to share the larger version of this one. Hehe...

Powerplant

Live, work, play, shop community

Wall climbing is long gone now. (tho I haven't tried it myself)

Community that's pet and feet-friendly. Hehe...

And the underconstruction bridge to the other side...
