What the hell takes them so long?
It is only 6.1 km of flat terrain.

2008 - 2009 - 2010 - 2011 - 2012

Yeah, that's 4 - 5 years of construction, almost double the Polish 2 - 2.5 years construction time.

Maybe they have more important routes to complete before this one?

Yeah, like D8 near Ústí nad Labem, the R1 Praha ring road and R35 Turnov - Olomouc.

You got the point!

Any idea about the traffic expectations for this border stretch?

really strange , as I said I was in Bohumin this week and it looks that they are on the stage that they can lay the concrete tier (I think it will be concrete motorway becasue the last ready section in Bohumin is concrete). Bridges on the local roads, that will overpass the motorway, are ready,
the underlying stone tiers are ready as well waiting for top concrete tiers
to be done.
there is not much to be done for next 3 years so it`s difficult to believe that they will just stop the construction on such advanced stage - maybe not

Question for the Polish SSC'ers:

The S22 is an 1x2 expressway between Elblag and the Russian border Grzechotki. How does this road continue towards Kaliningrad? The border region has outdated imagery on Google Earth, but further on, you'll see a new road to Kaliningrad, including an eastern bypass of Kaliningrad. Is the border crossing in use now?

No ,the (Russian)border crossing is still closed

You can see some pics of the Russian part of the road on this site. In general, it is a simple 1x2 without flyovers.

I wonder why the Polish rushed to complete the S22 here, if the Russians don't complete their part. There is another border crossing only 11 kilometers away, which seems to be quite modern at the Russian side.

It's just another example of current state of polish-russian relations at governmental level.

Well, in that case the Polish just can tell the Russians the Braniewo/Mamonovo border crossing will be closed on the polish side by 2012. That will force them to complete the bordercomplex on the old Reichsautobahn. The city of Braniewo should be exonerated of through traffic.

It's not the way how issues between countries should be resolved.

By the way: I don't thing that citizens of Braniewo would be happy about closure. They earn their living from that border crossing.

It would be nice to add this map shows the condition of the road network.

My Polish translation;

grey = unknown
green = good condition
yellow = mediocre condition
red = bad condition
blue = under reconstruction
