By the end of November the new Urban Outfitters in the former Virgin Megastore/Zavvi unit will be open

Does anyone know anything about a future opening of Apple in the city?

What shops would be great to have in the city? and in the new St James Quarter?

I can see an Urban Outfitters being very popular.

There's already CANCOM on Nicolson Street for all the Apple Fanboys, I'd much prefer a proper apple store somewhere near Princes Street though(student discount )!

The outline plan got consent subject to later detail. The proposal was for different architects to be employed on individual components but I'm not sure how close Henderson Global are to getting full finance.

Thanks belle, had to wade through the bitchfest to find your answer. Well thats good, I definitely liked the initial masterplan. I can't find a picture anywhere, but I remember the crescent shaped mall seemed to pass easily as another block in the New Town. I think considering Edinburgh's tourism, it punches below it's weight in retail. This should rectify that a bit.

Henderson Global? Aren't they struggling to fund one Buchanan Galleries extension?!

As far as I'm aware Buchanan galleries extension hasn't actually received full planning permission yet.

What makes you think Edinburgh punches below it's weight in retail terms, Leadensky?

By the way, daily flows between Glasgow and Edinburgh show them to be the two most interlinked major cities in the UK by quite a distance. I think that's rather lovely and bodes well for the future. Edinburgh is a magnificent city.

And yes, this is getting tedious as fuck and I can imagine it's probably putting off people from Edinburgh or any other part of Scotland from joining this forum. This thread should be erased and a new thread created where Edinburgh's retail is actually discussed.

The project has its own website which states that they hope to submit further applications next Spring and begin demolition in 2011 before the end of the world in 2012.

I checked.. and.. you're right to question me. Embra does naw bad, I apologise. Just outside the top 10 in-fact. But surely Cardiff will have leapfrogged it with St.David's? And Aberdeen's Union Square and Glasgow's St.Enoch will have stiffened the competition. Was just trying to steer the discussion back to 'Retail In Edinburgh!'
