Let's not try play down other European cities however. Although London is a brilliant and has places with lots to do, it is a shadow of what Paris is artistically and even though London is the modern music capital of Europe (without a doubt), it would find it very difficult to keep up with Paris in artistic terms. Arguably the UK is God awful in comparison to the other main European countries for classical music and the like (although we do have a few crackers)

London is still amazing whichever angle we look at it from, as it Paris - I found it confusing that citizens of either cities (or indeed countries as the case may be), would feel the need to justify such a blatant fact with eachother.

Given the euro/pound exchange rate.....I could gamble my life that Paris has a larger Metropolitan GDP than London....you're not using 2007 figures anymore, are you?

London is the world's biggest financial centre, world's biggest aviation transportation hub (and the lead is especially strong for international traffic), and the most diverse city on earth. Unlike in Paris, our minorities are not all clustered at the bottom of the income scale. London's richest and most skilled are just as likely to be foreign as our poorest and most disadvantaged. London sources its immigrants from a much wider array of places too. London is Europe's city of ambition and opportunity.
Yeah sure......

And if mantaining the most beautiful city in the world as it is and not demolishing buildings that are really pieces of art, but instead giving new uses to them is to be 'not dinamic', well, I'm proudly 'not dinamic'. Anyway.....the dinamism of a city is given by many other factors besides demolishing buildings....and Paris is the centre from where many of the trends that are popular in the world come from....and it has always been this way.

And about the "we are more important economically because we have lots of financial institutions" crap...well thanks to that laissez faire attitude is why the UK economy is much more affected by the financial crisis than France, who stands high among the developed countries.

In what really matters....the number of companies who are among the largest of the world that each city hosts....Paris hands it down

Number of Global 500 companies.....

Paris Metro Area: 39
London Metro Area: 19

And the empire and blah blah blah....well...do you know which city was the model for inspiration for the cities of the world in the XIX and begginings of the XX centuries?? Yes, the Grand Paris.....just look at cities as far as Buenos Aires and notice which city they tried to look like...and Argentina never was a french colony, and it did not receive massive french immigration..it was mostly spanish and italian. Also....you always hear that everywhere there is a city that claims to be the 'Paris of....' I have never heard of any city claiming to be the 'London of...' that must tell you something or not???

Care to name some recent world trends that originated in Paris?

Thats the problem with statistics - you can change the paramaters to say anything you want. Our economy is bigger than italy's and I would think will continue to be for a long time in the future.
