Apparently Chicago's nickname has nothing to do with its climate. I believe the design that proceeded Elphinstone was scrapped at the last minute due it creating gale force winds at ground level.
I don't actually know much about wind design, but I think sheer walls to the street are a big no. I remember studying in Edinburgh, and when you walk past David Hume tower at the university, it could suddenly get difficult to walk in a straight line on even a moderately windy day. And this is only a 14 storey building.

I know that feeling when going past a tall building. Can only imagine how bad it must be underneath a 130m beast.

Aaah, you sensible folks have brought us dreamers back down to earth. So a cluster of tall(ish) buildings on an east-west alignment would basically block out the sun on an area north of them in winter...
that rules out a Tradeston cluster, eh? |

I don't quite want to make it sound like a few buildings higher than the 4 storey Victorian datum would suddenly plunge Glasgow into total darkness... all I mean is that this issue is worthy of consideration.
If I've worked this out correctly, then the Argyle International / Jumeirah will cast a shadow on the roof of Central Station at certain times of day/year. And maybe that's okay. It probably wont last for long each day, and there's generally enough ambient light that the concourse should remain being the bright and airy place it is today. But once you start talking significantly higher, and in greater density, then it may reach the point where there's an unacceptable trade off. It's probably moot anyway, as I don't see it as particularly likely that any supertall buildings will be built in Glasgow anyway for any number of other reasons.
