Senegal records decline in Malaria morbidity rate

The morbidity rate from malaria in Senegal has gone down from 22.25% in 2007 to 5.62% in 2008, according to the supervisor of the National Programme for the Fight against Malaria (PNLP), Mr. Moussa Ndour.
"Malaria which constituted one of the first causes of (hospital visits) and mortality in Senegal is henceforth (being tamed) in the whole country. Thanks to the Fast Dia gnosis Test (TDR), the country was able to control the evolution of the disease," Mr. Ndour said here Sunday evening, during a workshop.
According to him, some localities in the country, notably ThiÊnaba in the district of Khodjent and in Panda in the district of Koumpentoum, had not recorded any case of malaria this year.
"The performances achieved in these areas were obtained thanks to the involvement of the community in the distribution and use of insecticide-soaked mosquito nets, the destruction of the breeding places of mosquitoes, and the identification and early treatment of identified cases," he said.
