Postcode 3051: North Melbourne

Woke up at 7am randomly this morning and started walking down to the pool to do some laps and remembered the North Melbourne pool doesn't open til 9am on a saturday (c*nts), so took a long walk to kill some time.

Students, medical Professionals, ex-convicts, Lithuanians, vagrants, actors, housing commission types and everything else in between.

North Melbourne's problem? There should be 10x the amount of people living in the same postcode.

FYI-- You could sneak into the North Melb pools quite easily.

Great pics, love North Melbourne. I really love the northern end of NM, the corner between Flemington Rd and CityLink. The backstreets are full of amazing unused warehouse spaces and public housing towers. I love the East Berlin inspired paint job on one of those buildings. I would love it if they converted one of those warehouses into a seedy Berghain/Panorama style nightclub like in Berlin.

Hmm, I went through up that way late last night. Those high-rise towers look awesome lit up late at night, and so does Citylink

Nice photos tayser. I agree about not enough people there but there's still plenty of old warehouse spaces etc with potential in that corner Alphie has mentioned

I noticed the other day there's a new little light-industrial estate east of South Kensington station (yes, I know, another suburb). I suppose it's better than the land sitting there disused but it would be nice to use that kind of site for high density residential use, not one-level concrete warehouses.

And people must get such a flawed view of what North Melbourne is like when they just see the view from the train near the station with that name, which isn't even in Nth Melb.

I've been meaning to do a North Melbourne thread for so long, I live in a terrace right in the heart of the suburb.

Thanks for beating me to it, now I don't have to bother

Great photos of an area that I love.

Brilliant thread Tayser. Simply brilliant. Another suburb to add to my list of potential places to move to next year.

North Melbourne(originally Hotham) is an upmarket Footscray.
I used to live in West Melbourne ( really part of North Melbourne) and it was a great place to live close to everything - wqlking distance to Vic market.the CBD,the very interesting NM shopping strip and with great PT..

Try getting one of the tiny terrace houses for under $1 million now.

Have you looked at Abbotsford, which is actually home to the Collingwood Town Hall? That's an interesting inner-city enclave.

Done.

A quick domain.com.au search showed a 3 bedroom terrace on Villiers St for $690-740,000.

Unaffordable? Yes. THAT unaffordable? No.

I second this notion/ Abbotsford is amazing. Some awesome things will happen there over the next 10 years.

Abbotsford is a favorite of mine as well. You really get a good view of it from the train towards/from Clifton Hill. Such charming little houses and streets. What also makes it fantastic is the proximity of the Yarra River and the parklands. I'm not sure if its exactly within the boundaries of Abbotsford but I would absolutely love to own a terrace facing that little park opposite Collingwood Station.

Always liked North Melbourne, but its a hard market to crack into. People hang on to their homes for dear life. One of the biggest reasons why there are still so many great terraced homes left. I love the industrial areas close to the Vic Market. Some great warehouses that would make excellent movie locations.
