I appreciate that my proposal is even nuttier than what they're proposing, but one point worth mentioning is that shoudl the southern end go to Heathrow rather than Reading, it would then give direct interchange between Heathrow and Luton airports, and if you could convince Virgin to stop at Cheddington, a single-change for Birmingham international.

...thoguh I guess it may very well be quicker for them to Crossrail it from Maidenhead to Farringdon and Thameslink it to Luton Parkway and bus it from there. I suspect the direct service would be competitive with that scenario, and have less changes though.

That's the first time I've seen that proposal. I think it's a bloody brilliant idea. It is bonkers there is no rail link to Heathrow other than via London.

Thanks for that. Loving the concept. Doubling the line from Wycombe to Maidenhead is going to be obligatory. Hope it works out.
