Just your thoughts and ideas I know we are all aware of whats going on Dubai as far as towers go. But just another chance to think back and reflect on it.

Just wondering, is there any particular reason for doing this aside from the "Wow" factor. I mean, is there something particular about the climate that makes it better to build skyscrapers rather than a load of houses?

OK, here are the renders all the towers to put things into perspective. Have a lot of spare time on my hands as you can plainly see :

Park Square Tower, Approved, 150F?, 666m?, 2010
(No render yet)

Unnamed Res Tower, Proposed/Approved?, 110F, 400m+, 2009/2010?

Abbco Rotana Hotel, U/C, 72F, 333m, 2007

Al Durrah 2, Approved, 78F, 330m, 2010? (construction starts in 2007)

One Central Park, Proposed/Approved?, 80F, 328m, 2009/2010?

Burj Al Arab, Built, 50F, 321m,

Ocean Heights, UC/Approved?, 82F, 310m, 2008/2009? (starts next year)

Marina Gardens, Approved, 75F, ?m, 2009?

Ahmed Abdul Rahim Al Attar Tower, U/C, 70F, 301m, 2007/2008

Burj Dubai Lake Hotel, Approved, 63F, 300m, 2008/2009

This post sure took a long time to make and I'm quite knackered now
Pretty impressive huh?

BTW there are probably a few mistakes so point them out if you want.

Al Burj, Proposed, 205F?, 850m+ ? 2010 or 2011 maybe.

Burj Dubai, U/C, 160F (189?), 700m+ (800?) end 2008/2009

Unnamed Res Tower, Proposed/Approved?, 110F, 400m+ not before 2009

23 Marina, UC/Approved?, 90F, 380m supposed to be end 2007, rather 2008.

Almas Tower, U/C, 65F, 350m 2008/2009

Torch Tower, Approved, 80F, 345m 2008

Princess Tower, U/C, 90F, 340m 2008/2009

Najd Tower, U/C, 82F, ?m not before 2008

Abbco Rotana Hotel, U/C, 72F, 333m 2007?

Al Durrah 2, Approved, 78F, 330m

One Central Park, Proposed/Approved?, 80F, 328m 2009

Ocean Heights, UC/Approved?, 82F, 310m end of 2008

Marina Gardens, Approved, 75F, ?m ?not before 2008?

Ahmed Abdul Rahim Al Attar Tower, U/C, 70F, ?m end 2008/2009

Burj Dubai Lake Hotel, Approved, 63F, 300m 2008

that is just what came to my mind. for sure we have better dates.

OK, added estimated completion dates. I made some changes though. Firstly, can't imagine Al Burj finished in 2010 or 2011. This tower will take at least 5 years to build by itsself.

10 to 12 i would say. maybe 3 more on SZR, 1/2 more in the marina, 3-4 in business bay and 1/2 random ones like KM supertall for example.

Guys let us now be a little bit pessimistic.

How many buildings over 300m are really under construction?

We can say with 100% that Abbco Rotana and Burj Dubai are under construction. Which other over 300m towers are under constrcution?
