Hi OTR.

You do like to stir the pot don't you.
Optimism is a good thing - but ......

Ahh - NO - the height won't be 888 ...
Ahh - NO - the pinnacle won't be jacked up ...

It didn't look like there is any provision for a large flagpole or lightning rod by the looks of Imre's visit to the top. Nor is there any way the pinnacle is not welded solid a long time ago. There does look like there is a clamp(s) for a small pole, rod, or antennae though but I would think it would be erected by now if there is gonna be one.

The question is whether Emaar will announce 818.0 or 824.6 (or .7 or .8 ...).
It depends whether they collaborate with the CTBUH before the announcement.

Thanks for letting us know asap after they release the height OTR.

Waiting with baited breath ....
to hear ...
824.6 or 824.7 or 824.8 meters.

I saw this on the sidewalk on the BD Boulevard today, and had to Google. This belongs to an Italian model.
Anyone else came across this or any more?
I also noted that they have started to name the streets, I look onto Burj Lake Street. Why cant Emaar make any announcements about things like this?

Burj Dubai lights up on night before its opening; Hugh Ferriss would like this

January 03, 2010

Somewhere, perhaps in the very small section of heaven where last, great architectural renderers go, Hugh Ferriss is smiling.

Hugh Ferriss, you see, was the great architectural of the early 20th Century. In the 1920s, his visionary drawings of mountainlike skyscrapers helped popularize what became known as the "setback style."

Sometimes, the drawings showed spotlights knifing into the sky behind Art Deco skyscrapers (below). The images were so powerful that they inspired actual buildings--or, more accurate, their architects--to follow Ferriss' example.

Well, if you've looked at my colleague Kuni Takahashi's spectacular photo of the Burj Dubai here in Dubai tonight--on the eve of its formal opening tomorrow--you know where I'm heading.

The skyscraper's spiraling setbacks are filled with laser nights that shoot into the air just like a Ferriss drawing. It's as though the chief architect of the Burj Dubai, Adrian Smith, formerly with the Chicago office of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and now head of his own firm, had precisely this kind of image in mind when he designed the tower's spiraling setbacks. Life continues to imitate art.

The Hugh Ferriss analogy is trully bittersweet, kinda sad that the future this man envisioned came but a hundread years later!

Should we change the status of this tower to Com (Completed) since the exterior and some of the interior is completed?

Due a change in the way they measure the official height of a building, the tower has grown a bit.

Before: height starting from the sidewalk at groundlevel
Now: height starting from the sidewalk of the lowest entrance, and the Burj Dubai has one lower entrance, so that explains the increase in height.

It's not fully completed yet. Panels are missing and not everything is finished on the tiers and the annexes.

Hi Denis, It doesnt seem that long ago that we were racing to see who was first to spot the next steel level going up, and here we are.

I have arranged a roof top party for a crowd of us so really looking forward to the spectacle and hopefully some good images from around the Burj base

Fireworks in double vision will be good.

Hi Fury, I had a dream that there were 888 bottles of beer in a row and I sang the full song
