Tel Aviv municipality repairing historic street
Tel Aviv municipality repairing historic street
The project includes replacement water, sewage, shrubbery, lighting, and fiber-optic infrastructure. Ron Paz 4 Aug 05 17:52 As the city of Tel Aviv approaches its 100th anniversary, the Tel Aviv municipality is remodeling Herzl St., one of the first six streets in Ahuzat Beit. Ahuzat Beit, the area where the first Jews in the area settled outside of Jaffa, is considered the historic beginning of Tel Aviv. In July, Ezra & Bizaron Housing Co. Ltd. began working on the section of Herzl St. between Salame St. and Ahad Ha’am St. Work includes replacement of infrastructure, such as water, sewage, shrubbery, lighting, and fiber optics. The project also includes removing overhead electrical lines, and replacing them with underground lines. The NIS 12 million project is being carried out in two stages. The first stage, which has two sections, began a month ago, and is scheduled for completion in February 2006. In order to make things easier for storeowners, sections of Herzl St. between Salame St. and Florentine St. are being closed first, and sections between Florentine St. and Jaffa will be closed later. The second stage, in which Herzl St. will be closed between Jaffa and Ahad Ha’am St., is due to end in the summer of 2006. The plan also includes new sidewalks, irrigation system, and asphalt in the street. Published by Globes [online] - www.globes.co.il - on August 4, 2005 Looks like restoration projects in Tel Aviv are speeding up once again...hopefully the municipality will fund some more of these kinds of projects.
