no, they are better because hockey is a sport of passion like any other. Very few american kids grow up dreaming of being a hockey star.

Didn't expect that hockey would be a fairly popular sport in Croatia. Has it gained popularity over the recent years?

It was very popular in the 80' when Medvescak Zagreb signed some Canadian players and was champion of Yugoslavia three times in a row.
These days it's regaining popularity because from this year Medvescak is participating in first Austrian league (EBEL) with two Slovenian and one Hungarian club.

EBEL league (Austria, Croatia, Hungary, Slovenia) is having series of winter classics

First one was played in Klagenfurt today on HYPO Arena where KAC Klagenfurt hosted Villacher SV (attendance was 30k).

Few pics:

For the Americans and Canadians (mainly for the Canadians), what is your favorite junior hockey arena? Any level is fine. What do they look like?

Tonight, at 19.15 CET, there is first of two "Winter Classics" in Zagreb, Croatia... match of EBEL League... Medvescak is hosting Austrian side Villach SV... and match is played on Salata Sports Center... cca 4.500 tickets were sold 16 days ago, in just 60 minutes... match is going to be spectacular...

Villach is currently on 5th places, just 3 points ahead of Medvescak (best 8 teams are qualified to play-offs)

my comment

Id like to be there, but unfortunately, I cant

zig-zag Medvescak!!!

4.500 crowd saw great match, by thirds (0-0, 2-0, 0-2, OT 0-0, P 0-1), with match decided on penalties... but, Medvescak qualified to play-offs... second "Classic" is to be held on Sunday, at 18.00, against big rival, "Dragons" of Ljubljana, TILIA Olimpija

Such a big fan but yet you don't know who Medveščak is playing in Sunday... stop embarrassing yourself here as well. You already did too much of that on Cro forum.
