Either way, I cannot imagine the row-row + passenger terminal wil not be connected by train. How are the passengers going to reach Tanger-City then?

I didn't read anywhere that TGV will leave Tanger-med.

But we can easly imagine that few trains per day will leave Tanger-med to Rabat directly or with a stop in Tanger city.

ALMACO to modernize public areas onboard Moroccan ship owner Comarit’s vessels M/S Biladi and M/S Berkane



Ship owner Comarit has awarded ALMACO two contracts for large scale modernization of public areas onboard their vessels M/S Biladi and M/S Berkane. The contracts were signed in March 2010 and the projects are scheduled for delivery by the end of June 2010. The work will be done on dry docks in the western Mediterranean.

On M/S Biladi, built in France 1980 and revitalized in 1991, ALMACO is performing a turnkey refurbishment project in public areas on decks 5 and 6 of the vessel. New areas to be added in the refit are the Moroccan Tea Room, VIP lounge and restaurant, Tax free Shop, Children’s playroom and a seating area on deck 2. The Cafeteria, Bar and public bathrooms will receive a modernized look.

M/S Berkane was built in France 1976 and revitalized in 2004. ALMACO’s contract includes conversion and refurbishment work in public areas on decks from 3 to 9. The modernization will include a new shopping street concept with Hair Salon, Tax Free Shops and Moroccan Tea Room. ALMACO will add a new Mosque and Luggage room and a Kids’ area; additionally the cinema will be converted into a new Bar/Night Club. Areas to be modernized are the Reception area, Cafeteria, Restaurant and Bar, corridors, lobbies, staircases and public restrooms.

For both vessels, ALMACO’s scope of supply includes engineering and design, project management, demolition and scrapping, supply and shipping of materials including loose furniture, all interior work, supply and installation of catering equipment for bars, modification of the ships systems where necessary, as well as commissioning.

In July 2010 the newly refitted ships, featuring a modern Moroccan atmosphere with functional refurbished and converted public areas for added travel comfort and convenience will start operating in the Mediterranean between Tangier (Morocco) and Genoa (Italy) and Tangier and Sète (France).

Algésiras risque de perdre Maersk

La crise continue au terminal de conteneurs d’Algésiras. L’opérateur danois Maersk a annoncé il y a quelques jours sa volonté de transférer une partie de son volume actuellement traité à Algésiras vers le port de TangerMed où il est également présent. Cette annonce a eu l’effet d’une bombe chez les syndicats espagnols à Algésiras. Ces derniers y voient une manière indirecte de faire pression pour refuser toute demande de revalorisation des salaires et ce en pleine négociation de la convention collective entre les deux parties.
Maersk argue le manque de compétitivité du terminal à conteneurs qu’il régente à Algésiras pour transférer près de 400.000 conteneurs vers TangerMed I. En effet, la rémunération moyenne varie dans un rapport de un à deux juste en traversant le détroit et ce en faveur du terminal tangérois. Et la productivité serait elle aussi élevée à TangerMed avec une fréquence de mouvements de conteneurs supérieure à la moyenne mondiale de l’opérateur, selon des sources internes. Cette décision intervient après une série de signaux lancés par Maersk en direction des autorités espagnoles.
D’abord, Maersk, qui jouissait d’un quasi-monopole au sein du port d’Algésiras n’a pas soumissionné pour l’attribution du nouveau terminal à conteneurs d’Isla Verde, à Algésiras, en 2008.
D’autre part, les responsables du terminal espagnol de Maersk ont, à maintes reprises, demandé une réduction des taxes portuaires pour augmenter leur compétitivité.
Le port vient de boucler une phase d’extension avec un investissement total de 510 millions d’euros. La première phase a été achevée en 2008, la deuxième le sera en 2011. Elle comptera deux quais d’un total de 1.900 mètres linéaires et des tirants d’eau compris entre 17,5 et 18,5 mètres. Elle se verra adosser une aire logistique de 72 hectares et disposera de connexions avec les réseaux de communication de la zone. Il s’agissait pour les autorités espagnoles de ne pas perdre du terrain face à TangerMed. C’est d’ailleurs ce qui a poussé les Espagnols à accélérer leur projet. En effet, le marché du transbordement a connu des taux de croissance à deux chiffres, lors de la décennie précédant la crise financière actuelle. Un autre point en faveur de TangerMed: ses possibilités d’extension. Les exploitants doivent être sûrs d’avoir de la «marge», c’est-à-dire d’avoir la possibilité d’étendre leurs capacités.
A noter qu’Algésiras est le 7e port mondial et premier espagnol, constituant l’un des plus importants hubs maritimes de la région. A lui seul, il affiche près de 70 millions de tonnes de marchandises en transit par an, loin derrière le géant mondial Rotterdam avec plus de 350 millions de tonnes. Il accueille plus de 21.000 navires par an et est en phase d’extension avec la prétention de doubler ses capacités.
Il comporte actuellement deux quais à conteneurs, un en interne, le Juan Carlos I, saturé à 100% et le deuxième, Isla Verde, un grand espace gagné sur la mer (cf. www.leconomiste.com) entré en service récemment. A ces derniers s’ajoutera Isla Verde Exterior dès 2008. Tarifa complète l’offre avec une plateforme essentiellement dédiée au transport maritime des passagers.

The port Tanger Med has given the group Spanish and Moroccan Boluda Comarit a ten-year concession to operate a new wharf dedicated to ro-ro traffic. Boluda The group is already active at the airport with a concession for towage services twenty-five years, while Comarit draws a line between Tangier and Algeciras, Spain.
