The Amsterdam Arena will expand the first tier by lowering the stands to the pitch (overlapping the transportation shafts/"gracht" which will still be open for transport), about the corners: 2 corners will be closed permanently and 2 corners will be closed with moving stands (similar to Euro 2000) this is still "on hold" because less wind could have a negative effect on the pitch. I don't expect any movement this summer (maybe some extra stands close to the pitch. It all depends on Fifa's verdict (do you accept Russian roubles ?) in december...

WC or no WC, it will be expanded to some 55k.

the 65k is very likely just the nett capacity so it's gross capacity should be somewhere around 70k.

No Sercan, you are not wrong but correct. If the +/- 65.000 seats variant will be chosen for development, the stands behind the goals will be raised quite up to a quite impressive height.

Yes. It looks like Da Luz (Laola / oval) style. Would be interesting to know if they add a 3rd tier or just expand the 2nd tier.

Modernization and extension Main Building of the Amsterdam Arena:









Amsterdam, 4 April 2011 - Amsterdam ArenA, the largest stadium in the Netherlands for football, live concerts, entertainment and business events, has today given the green light for the modernization and extension of the Main Building. The aims of this major operation are to improve the Main Building's accessibility and safety as well as the ease of finding one's way around it, to boost quality and extend the hospitality rooms and to make the stadium's equipment more sustainable. This modernization and extension constitutes the biggest and most ambitious project since the stadium's opening in 1996. The overall investment comes to around € 20 million. The project is scheduled to complete in the summer of 2012.

Modernization of Main Building
The Main Building's hospitality rooms are to be extended and the quality of all facilities will be given a boost. By means of clear and transparent logistics, the users of the ArenA's Main Building will be able to find their way to and from the rooms more easily. Additional lifts and escalators have been incorporated into the plan in a central new hub in the heart of the building and an internal connection between the Main Building and the Entrance Building will be introduced. Circulation areas will be widened considerably. The new main structure of the building will ensure finding one's way around is easier, better organized and safer.

Amsterdam ArenA. Where it's at.
Amsterdam ArenA is continually developing itself in order to keep the stadium state-of-the-art. After fifteen years it is time for a radical overhaul of the Main Building. Amsterdam ArenA is investing in the future so as to offer a ‘new' Main Building in a top location with a variety of rooms of different sizes for all kinds of purposes. Completion will be in 16 months. In the meantime, the work will not get in the way of events in Amsterdam ArenA.

"We are delighted and proud that we're going to be implementing this project, because it will mean we are once again able to provide our guests with an atmosphere that can hold its own with the Champions League of the European stadiums", says Henk Markerink, Director of Amsterdam ArenA.

Rik van den Boog, Managing Director of Ajax, responds positively: "For Ajax, the development of Amsterdam ArenA also signifies good news. Ajax's staff, management and squad, and certainly the supporters too, will benefit from a modern, safe and high-quality stadium. In addition to this, of course, it provides natural prospects for the future."

Sustainability
This modernization of the Main Building will see Amsterdam ArenA fulfilling half of the objectives for a climate-neutral stadium by 2015. Thus the measures relating to equipment are being combined with a new building management system which allows the energy flows for each room to be monitored and controlled centrally. Less heating or cooling is necessary due to state-of-the-art technology.

CO2 emissions are being halved by means of energy-saving measures. The remaining emissions are compensated by the latest generation of roof-mounted solar panels and our very own windmill. Amsterdam ArenA will even be an energy producer in off-peak periods. Packaging materials are being reduced, separated and recycled. On balance, Amsterdam ArenA will no longer emit a single gram of CO2 in 2015. The official start of the modernization process today will make a considerable contribution to the stadium's image as the sustainable showpiece of Amsterdam.
