Rendezvous Sports representatives to meet the Sports Minister

Rendezvous Sports representatives will meet sports minster Vijaya Kumar tomorrow to check the possibility to use the stadium to be built in kariyavattom for the forthcoming IPL Kerala matches. They will also visit the KCA HQ near Model School. Hope tomorrow they will anounce the name and jersey .

Manorama's double game

pls go through the two links from manorama online. in the first one they just given a single line news that KCA is not ready to conduct IPL matches in Trivandrum. In the second link it is stated that KCA and IPL kerala owners jointly informed that the matches will conduct in the to be built stadium in kariavattom and the IPL team name should be related with Kerala.

I think it's not the fault of Manorama this time.

It was KCA's opinion regarding conducting matches in other venues.

Yesterday, there was a programme regarding this on Manorama News - 'Ningal Parayu' and the KCA secretary and our own Ajayettan (AjayPP) were there to give out their opinion on this issue.

I fully agree with Ajayettan on what he said.

I think KCA changed their stance later.

(But the timings of the two news are confusing me).

I'd like to see IPL getting conducted in Trivandrum and Calicut too, alongwith Cochin, in the near future.

i missed the programme as i am not a follower of manorama news channel. what is wrong with KCA now?? K stand for Kerala or Kochi, i doubt. it is time to show the door to the hon. secretary from KCA like what happened in L Modi case. The land scam of the edakkochi stadium in which he involved is still in court.

IPL has become "gambling and business": M.Vijaya Kumar

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Even as the new Kochi IPL franchise is actively lobbying for government support in Kerala, the state Sports Minister M Vijayakumar on Thursday said the Twenty20 League has virtually become "gambling and business".

"Cricket as a sport will be encouraged. But we cannot agree to treat the game as a commercial venture," he said.

"Unfortunately, the bidding of teams and auctioning of players had assumed the dimension of gambling and business," he said, adding this could not be approved.

Asked what could be the approach of the state government towards the Kochi IPL team, the CPI-M minister in the VS Achuthanandan's cabinet said, "as a game, we will be promoting cricket, but not as a business".

Promoters of the Kochi IPL consortium Rendezvous had on Wednesday met the Chief Minister seeking his government's support for the side.

Achuthanandan asked them to give the details of the venture in writing and said the government would decide on the matter after holding discussion.

Now the consortium might have realized the anti-investment policy of Kerala culture. I will not be surprised if they think that It would have been better to go Ahmedabad where they will get a red carpet welcome. Also the sports ministry may not cooperate to build the Kariyavattom as the venue for IPL matches, which make things easier for Mr.Mathew and team to choose Kochi as the only place for IPL matches.

- Venu, the Government is being understandable cautious here after the scandals which have become part and parcel of IPL lately. However, MVK has had discussions with ST on how to get the International Stadium at Karyavattom ready for IPL. When complete, it will be the only purpose-built cricket stadium of international standards in Kerala, and I hardly think IPL Kerala has hardly any choice in the matter.

it seems your famous minister is backing out

Kerala govt cold-shoulders Kochi IPL team

Rendezvous Sports World's foray into cricket and Kerala is fast turning into a nightmare. After the controversy surrounding Shashi Tharoor and Lalit Modi saw both lose their position - one in the ministry and the other in the IPL - the consortium had hoped for a fresh start.

But their plans of getting the Kerala government to support the Kochi IPL team drew a blank. The CPM-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) government thinks that the IPL is a cocktail of wealth, wine and women with a little bit of cricket thrown in between.

How can we support the IPL which is just about gambling?" Vijayakumar asked.

I am sure the Government and the Minister will be pragmatic about assisting IPL Kerala.

However, that does not change the bit about marshy land, no clearance and gas....swamp gas, one bit!

Hey guys,
Anyone know about how the stadium at Karyavattom looks like?

And,its very sad to know that the sports minister is not supporting the IPL.
Why should they look into the other matters going inside the IPL like black money etc..
We just want our city to grow.I hope his mind changes.
And the pune team which was bought along with the Kerala team has gone too far.
They've started their works there. They are getting the support of the state government.

The stadium design will take some time, before it can come into the public domain.

The Government has announced its support for IPL Kerala. Please don't believe everything that any Tom, Dick or Harry reports.

It's the Government's responsibility to see that only above the board activity is taken up in association with it. If some new scandal blows up about Kerala IPL, these same people clamouring against MVK's cautious stand will scream that he is hand in glove with crooks and gamblers. So better safe than sorry!

You are welcome.

I think you have not got the full picture as most of the media has been focusing on creating a make-believe rivalry between GoK and Kerala IPL. This report gives the full story about the Government's actual stand.

Sure, always happy to help. Who's "we", btw? Are you even remotely connected to anything remotely connected to the IPL or any other development related issue?

Well, when I was on TV for a discussion on IPL that included the KCA Secy, he was talking about salvaging lighting systems demolished in other stadiums. Perhaps this is what you are referring to?
