Here's an old aerial view of KL. I can't accurately date it. KL Sentral is in the top left of the photo. Any ideas guys?

Excellent find!

KL Sentral (Brickfields Yard) is not in the picture – the picture shows Petaling Street area actually with the Railway Station and Offices at the top left. I think it should be pre-WW2, perhaps around 1930.

Apart from the fact that most of the shophouses have been built over with something taller, there are some noticeable features that have changed or don’t exist anymore:

1. Foch Avenue (Jalan Cheng Lock) with Sultan Street Railway Terminus.
2. Cenotaph at Victory Avenue near the railway station
3. Shophouses opposite Central Market (Mc Arthur Street)
4. Venning Road Chapel
5. The Klang River has not been straightened yet at the old Victoria Institution.
6. Survey Department Building (centre, top)
7. Central Market appears to have not been rebuilt into its present Art-Deco style.

Yep, seems like people have been trying to tame the river for a long time before the SMART tunnel.

I can't avoid noticing but from these photos i can see that KL has already been a car-oriented society even way back then. Only a few people ride bicycles and many cars can already be seen roaming around the city.. This is different from other asian cities where people normally started using bicycles and only started buying more cars during the late 70s..
