Edinburgh Development Summary
Once upon a time The Boy David created an Edinburgh Development summary, but alas it is no more. Until now.
Allan Murray proposal for redevelopment of the former Lothian Regional Council offices: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() For some reason I can't find any images of the existing Robert Matthew building, but saying that this is an improvement on it is damning it with faint praise. The Omni Centre transported to the Royal Mile. The only thing I like about the existing offices is the angular projections to Victoria Street, which they're removing. Plus, from looking at plans downloaded from the city planning office, they haven't even made any attempt to address the context of the Royal, ie the fishbone pattern and the old closes destroyed by previous developments. ---------------------- Was in a bit of a hurry, but noticed a crane at the Quartermile site today for the first time. I guess they're finally starting construction. Will investigate later. Background: Norman Foster masterplanned redevelopment of former Edinburgh Royal Infirmary site (ERI now located in Keppie designed lego box half way to Galashiels). Site is between The Meadows and Lauriston Place, home to the Edinburgh College of Art and George Heriot's school. To the east is Edinburgh University's George Square campus. ![]() ![]() •Masterplan: ![]() •New build apartments: ![]() ![]() •Offices:
