I like the SD Zoo as well, I just like the older Zoos for some reason.
ie: Philly, Bronx, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Binghamton

I'd say San Diego...just from reputation. I grew up going to the St. Louis Zoo. It was good zoo...and it was free. That's always a big selling point to me.

zoo's always make a city IMO, even if it's not the best damn zoo in the world...it brings another aspect of culture to the city. I've been to Buffalo, Toronto and Rochester zoo's...and Toronto's sucked...I know, Buffalo has lots of trees, very pleasing area being that it's located next to the Olmstead Park system.
Admission is one thing, especially if the local gov't can't fund it completely. Donations help alot, I recommend everyone take care of their local zoo.

Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago...
its free... is $32(zoo) + $28.50(wild animial park) + parking fee really worth what Lincoln Park Zoo which is free, have a parking lot for $7, when there are free street parking like adjacent to the zoo. Let see without paying a single thing compare to over $60? But of course, SD zoo offers way more.. |

I gree with Lincoln Park zoo. It is very nice (especially for being free). It is located in one of the nicer parks in the country in one of the great neighborhoods you will find in the country. Plus it is just a stones throw away form the lake.
In tandom with Chicagos brookfield zoo (actually a close suberb) I would say that Chicago's zoos can hang with anybodys. Having a free range wildlife park would be cool as heck though. Maybe Chicago can get a small one with Caribou and polar bears. |

Well, the Toronto Zoo (if it was included), would be the best
...It covers over 710 Acres, and it is one of the best Zoo's in the world. Bronx Zoo clames to be the worlds greatest with a thousand less animals than Toronto's... and it is 6.5 Acres and Toronto's is 710... with a water park, but watever. http://www.torontozoo.com/

San Diego, Omaha and Washington (it's free!) are the best in North America.
