Well, they will need an interesting structure not only a jet fountain to make the corniche more interesting.

Doha Master Plan

The capital Doha - situated directly at the Persian Gulf on the eastern border of the peninsula of the state Qatar - is one the fastest growing cities of the world. To study future expansion prospects of the city the Urban Planning & Development Authority of the city has selected and invited seven international offices to a competition called „Greater Doha Master Plan - Area One“ in the summer 2005. Like all modern coastal cities of the world Doha is dominated by the magic of the water and gradually starts to explore possibilities to open up the urban structure to the sea. The image of the concentric radiating pattern of the classical Arabesque, an ornamentic which has its origin in the Islamic art, is the basic idea for the future urban concept and development. Starting from the Corniche, a circular bay in the heart of the city, the astral formation will expand into the urban city fabric. Astral desert streams will generate fresh air corridors and define the image of the city in the desert. The spacious Morning Star Canal will provide the inner city ring with the beneficial water. The outer plots of the arabesque will form a technology belt comprising commercial and industrial areas as well as future research facilities. Through extensive afforestation a parklike surrounding will enclose and subdivide this for the future of Doha significant area.

Please Doha, develop into a classy and elegant city thats more like Paris, and less like Vegas. Dubai messed it up, so we need you to be beautiful!
No need to worry about that. I read in an interview with Arata Isozaki, that he said the Emir wants to develop Qatar differently. Unlike Dubai's focus on commercial life. And that the priorities are education and culture.

Don't know if this is the right thread to post this in.

It's a screencapture from one of the videos for the FIFA World Cup bid.

Lovely but no, thats just a random drawing. Why ? because the corniche suddenly doubles in size (the plan was scrapped anyways), then I see the Chicago spire and the Dubai towers, Istanbul in the skyline....

However the stadium and its surrounding is very real when the stadium is dismantled the area will become a very important public area with the addition of cafes, restaurants, retail etc.

Master plan proposes seafront districts
Each municipality in Qatar will be structured around a town centre under the master plan
By Sarmad Qazi and Ross Jackson
Staff Reporters

The Qatar National Master Plan, which is expected to be announced in the middle of this year, will include the development of three key central districts along Doha’s coastline, with a City Centre precinct at Doha’s heart, a senior official said yesterday .
Giving a sneak preview of the plan at the First Green Building Solutions Conference & Exhibition (GBS), Qatar National Master Plan (QNMP) project co-ordinator for Urban Planning Sector, Dr Stan Wypych, said it would be be based on six guiding principles.
They are quality of life for all, identity, environmental values, economic growth and diversification, connectivity of people, and ownership of planning.
Forming the backbone of the QNMP is the Qatar National Development Framework (QNDF), offering the precise growth direction all the way until 2032.
“The QNMP will have 17 strategic planning objectives, 61 policies, and 200 policy actions ranging from short- to long-term,” the official said.
It includes the development of three key central districts along the Doha’s coastline, with a City Centre precinct at Doha’s heart, designed to maximise the capacity for transport and pedestrian accessibility.
Secondary districts will be built along the already existing ring roads, with hubs designed to optimise the effectiveness of public transport systems which are also to be developed.
A green belt will be created along the projected city limit, marking the boundary for urban sprawl, as part of efforts to tackle environmental problems stemming from a rapidly growing population.
Each municipality in Qatar (there are seven right now) will be structured around a town centre, minimising commute time and emphasising “walkability” as well as facilitating and promoting the use of public transport, according to the guidelines provided by the master plan.
Walkable catchments will range from 250 metres in the neighbourhoods to a kilometre within a zone, reducing reliance on vehicles.
A new transport network will connect the isolated neighbourhoods with commercial and government districts as well as mega projects such as the stadiums planned for the FIFA World Cup 2022.
According to the official, developing a distinct identity for metropolitan Doha would remain a major focus of the master plan.
The QNMP, which has been in the making since 2005, will shortly undergo a Strategic Environmental Assessment, Dr Wypych said.
Speaking to Gulf Times on the sidelines of the conference, assistant undersecretary for Planning Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning (MMUP) , Ali Abdulla al-Abdulla said the plan would “hopefully be finished by the mid of this year”.
“We will be announcing the full plan, it will include everything from urban planning to environment. It will cover now until 2032,” al-Abdulla added.
