British India Vs Suria KLCC

Clothier sues Suria KLCC
By NURBAITI HAMDAN
nurbaiti@thestar.com.my

KUALA LUMPUR: BTC Clothier Sdn Bhd, the company that owns home-grown international brand BritishIndia, has sued Suria KLCC Sdn Bhd for allegedly failing to offer a new lease on the premises it has occupied for almost 12 years in the premier shopping mall.

The suit was brought for case management before High Court Judicial Commissioner Harmindar Singh Dhaliwal in his chambers at the Jalan Duta court complex yesterday.

In its statement of claim, BTC Clothier said Suria KLCC had breached an oral representation to renew a tenancy agreement on the premises. It alleged that the mall had instead cited two verbal offers of different locations, subsequently rescinded the offers and asked it to hand over the premises.

It claimed the eviction was done in bad faith as Suria KLCC had knowledge that BTC Clothier had renovated the premises at the cost of RM1.2mil.

It claimed that the offered rental rate, an increase of 40.41% over the previous rental, was “designed to discourage the plaintiff from accepting the terms of tenancy”.

BTC Clothier is seeking a declaration that the tenancy subsists between the plaintiff and defendant at the premises and the subsisting tenancy should be on the terms set out in an agreement at a rental rate adjusted to the prevailing market rate.

The case is set to go on trial on June 24 and 25 pending a settlement.

More shops closed

Universal traveller, osim, hush puppies, taiwan house and auntie annes closed. Nose is relocated to the former hush puppies site. fossil opening next to lacoste.

Ombak and a few other home decor stores also closed.

Hope they will bring in new to market brands instead of brands already in other malls.

yes..KLCC should acquire Avenue K and try to brand it and re-marketing the mall.

i think it should work since customer can walk to Avenue K with underpass.

You mean Signatures on level 2? Which outlet pays $30K as the outlets are all different sizes?

Some outlets have been there for years. Still the same variety of food.

Dont know why Suria brought in Coffee and Spice opposite Nandos. Their hoarding shows fried kuey teow, nasi lemak, cendol, etc. One can already find these at signatures and the level 4 food court as well. So many outlets selling the same thing but in a different setting.

Want to see who will take over the 4 empty lots between nandos and pedro. Hopefully 1 or 2 bigger outlets.

I think Suria needs to rebrand itself. With Pavilion around, more people will shop there instead.

Looking forward to some new brands instead of relocation of same old stores.

Hennes & Mauritz is H&M from Sweden. The true icon that will make KL ahead of Jakarta and even Bangkok.

Massimo Dutti

Massimo Dutti opening opposite body shop. Maybe ZARA will expand since the lot next to them is empty. Besides all the brands mentioned above, I will add uniqlo and sephora as well. Hope they will appear at LOT C q1 next year. Can't wait. All the new stores are opening in AUG!

Great to see Suria having new and bigger concept stores.
