I love the Genex Tower in Belgrade!
In general brutalist buildings are all ugly but special in a way. and in the end thats what counts for me. though theres no need to add more of such buildings to the world´s cities

In Poland we have very few examples of this fascinating style
"Manhattan" in Wrocław is probably the biggest complex of this kind in whole country:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Yeah, Bratislava has a lot of great brutal modernism.
Actually, the term 'brutalism' doesn't come from brutality, but from "béton brut" - concrete left unfinished or roughly-finished after pouring and left exposed visually. So: I'm sorry Iluminat, that's no Brutalism haha |

I wasn't being serious. It's a very uninteresting discussion to start, it seems everybody has a pretty clear image of it, and the Slovak Radio Station fits perfect.

The best Brutalist buildings around the world
Brutalism gets crapped on pretty often as terrible architecture that should be torn down immeadiately (even moreso than Meisian modernism) but I think that thought process is premature in many respects. Brutalist buildings are imposing and help bring an institutional feel to buildings. So, in order to show some love, I'd like people to post thier favorite examples of Brutalist architecture. Mine is the Schmitt Academic Center at DePaul University in Chicago. The Proportions and size of this building is perfect and it's a perfect testament to the Brutalist style.
Heres a render. ![]() Heres it in conjunction with the library. image hosted on flickr image hosted on flickr ![]() Here it is in relation with the rest of campus on the southeast side of the main quad. ![]() ....

I don't like it.

Torre Velasca is one of the most digusting buildings I have ever seen. No wonder everyone thinks Milan is ugly.

This thread is depressing. It goes to show me that there isn't one example of Brutalism that I actually like. If this is the best of the best of this type of architecture, then there is nothing that I will like.
