My Trondheim

Its about time i start taking a serious amount of photos from Trondheim, the city i live in! Ill try to use maps as often i can to describe the location of where the
pictures are taken, so that you can get some understanding about the city geography. I hope the thread will be enjoyable! But before starting, if you are a
complete stranger; Trondheim is the third largest city in Norway with a population on 170 936 (1.1.2010).

This is a map showing a part of Trondheim. The central part of the city (the historical city centre) is located on the peninsula carved out by the Nidelva river which
flows through the city. On the top of the map you see a large area covered with railroad tracks, harbour and industries. That is a large development area, and
there is a lot of construction going on these days. You can read more about the development in Trondheim in the Trondheim development thread in the Norwegian
section of Nordic & Baltic.

Bakklandet to Kristiansten Festning
Starting with pictures taken around Bakklandet and Kristiansten Festning as seen in the red sircle in the map.

Picture from Midtbyen (centre of Trondheim) towards Bakklandet, with the Nidelven River and the wharfs.

Gamle Bybro, from 1861.
First bridge here was built in 1681 in conjunction with Johan Caspar von Cicignon's city reconstruction and the construction of the Kristiansten Fortress.

When crossing Gamle Bybro from Midtbyen you arrive to Bakklandet. Bakklandet has a collection of many old
wooden houses which is preserved. On the corner when crossing Gamle Bybro (where these pictures are taken) you find several restaurants and boutiques.

Bryggene i Trondheim (Trondheim's wharfs). Oldest ones are from 1756.

Bakklandet to Kristiansten Festning

Walking along Nedre Bakklandet street.

Can see a rather unknown church tower at Asylbakken (to the left in the picture). I hope someone know more about this building?

Looking down Nedre Møllenberggate.

View from 'Port Arthur'. A nice house (Nedre Møllenberg Gate 2A) with a good view over Bakklandet below.

Bakklandet to Kristiansten Festning

Kristiansten Festning looking over Midtbyen (centre of Trondheim).
Kristiansten Festning was built after the city fire of Trondheim in 1681 to protect the city
against attack from the east. Constructed finished in 1685. It fulfilled its purpose in 1718 when Swedish forces lay siege of Trondheim.

Bakklandet to Kristiansten Festning

Skansegata 26. There was a major fire here a few years ago destroying most of the interiors and the roof.

Nedre Pedersborg Gate 7.

Lillegårdsbakken 34, just between Bakklandet and Singsaker. I will be getting back to Singsaker later with more photos.

Small blue house, Nedre Kristianstens Gate 15B.

Two houses from the 80s, Øvre Kristianstens Gate 10 and 12.

Brubakken 4A.

Brubakken 8 (red) and 10 (white). You can see i am back at the point i started with Gamle Bybro in the back.

Pink houses along Teglbrennerveien.

Bakklandet to Kristiansten Festning

The last of the pictures in this set. This is some of the first buildings along Øvre Bakklandet Gate.

An industrial building rebuilt into apartments between Øvre Bakklandet Gate and Teglbrennerveien.

And some modern houses between all these much older houses.

View from Nidelva riverbed towards Elgeseter Bridge. Nidarosdomen is also visible.

Looking toward Bakklandet.

Looks really cosy and warm town...I like it! Those Kristiansten Festning photos seem to hint that there's some museum in the fort too, right?

yes, its a museum. Its free to enter the fortress, but you have to pay to enter the main building which is the museum.

Looking good Þróndeimr!

I in fact already liked Trondheim, and Sør-Trøndelag in general, before I saw these nice photos . I think at least internally in Norway this area is often under-appreciated.

I have had a couple of car trips into or through Trondheim in summer and sometimes driving into Trondheim looks quite awesome!
Other than that some very nice buildings in the downtown, the Hotel Britannia is nice etc etc, the only thing I remember I disliked was the small wooden buildings in the pedestrian street area - I think they were simply too small and not fitting there. These are protected houses I assume?

If only the cards would be played right by forces like the politicians then Trondheim could have a bright future. But - - the politicians - - and trusting them(?). Hmmm..

Looks like a pleasant place, but not in winter I would imagine! Those wooden warehouses are fantastic, are they flats now?
