New diplomatic precinct launched in Putrajaya
By OH ING YEEN Saturday July 31, 2010

Checking it out: Samsudin and Nong Chik having a look
at photographs of the diplomatic precinct during the launch.

THE launch of the latest Diplomatic Precinct development in Precinct 4, Putrajaya, identified as Plot 4GDE, provides an alternative to the Diplomatic Precinct in Precinct 15.

It provides an added advantage as it is located within Precinct 4, which is set to be the future central business district in Putrajaya and is located near government buildings.

Speaking at the launch, Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin welcomed foreign missions looking for alternative locations for their embassies away from the hustle and bustle of Kuala Lumpur.

“It will be located in the middle of the future commercial and town centre of Putrajaya within Precinct 4.

“Embassies located here will be in the company of not only government ministries but also landmark commercial centres that will house the headquarters of various multinational corporations that will make Putrajaya their home in the future.

“In terms of connectivity, Plot 4GDE is located adjacent to the Seri Saujana Bridge that provides a direct connection to the MEX Highway, which links Putrajaya to Kuala Lumpur,” he said.

Perbadanan Putrajaya (Ppj) president Tan Sri Samsudin Osman said that diplomatic missions can opt to build their Chancery and Official Residences either in the city centre of Precinct 4 where they can have a multi-storey embassy complex or a boutique embassy in the suburb of Precinct 15.

After the launch, guests were taken on a technical visit to the Putrajaya Diplomatic Precinct 4 via the boat cruise.

To date, 21 foreign diplomatic missions have purchased 42 of the embassy lots in Precinct 15 while another five have indicated their intention to purchase another seven plots of land.

PPj plans to open up another diplomatic area in Precinct 5 to accommodate the future needs of foreign diplomatic missions in Putrajaya.

Putrajaya Sedia Jadi 'Bandar Mesra Belia'

Scomi Group: From survival to success

http://biz.thestar.com.my/news/story...1&sec=business

Jobs at home

While it pursues jobs abroad, the source says Scomi Engineering is not forsaking its prospects in Malaysia.

It is in negotiations with Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd for a RM600mil job to upgrade the monorail in KL to a four-car configuration and is refurbishing wagons for KTM Bhd. There are also talks on a Putrajaya monorail and another in Johor.

Scomi Engineering ploughs back some 20% of its revenue into research and development on trains to build more efficient monorails. The next-generation monorails it is building is called Gen 3.0 and would be the size of a LRT wagon.

PUTRAJAYA: To help reduce crime under the government's National Key Result Area (NKRA) and have safer cities in the country, Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) has launched MSAFE Putrajaya, in collaboration with the Information, Communications and Culture Ministry, the police and Putrajaya Holdings.

It was launched this morning by Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim and present were Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hussein, TM group chief executive officer Datuk Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa and Putrajaya Holdings chairman Tan Sri Samsudin Osman.

“We are glad to contribute towards the establishment of Putrajaya as a safe city trough MSAFE Putrajaya which integrates the MERS 999 emergency response system and the 171 CCTVs owned by Putrajaya Holdings, and I would like to congratulate TM for its success in implementing the system,” said Rais.

He said the MERS 999 system would assist four emergency service providers, namely, the police, Fire and Rescue Department, hospitals and the Civil Defence Department.

“The system runs under one common platform to provide a uniform and consistent process in handling emergency calls. We will implement this system in other parts of the country and it may cost around RM344 million,” said Rais, adding that MERS 999 would also reduce crank and prank calls of which 779,000 were recorded in the country last year.

Hishamuddin said he was delighted with the launching of the system and appreciated the efforts by Rais' ministry, TM and Putrajaya Holdings.

“This project will facilitate the agencies under the Home Ministry, particularly the police and Civil Defence Department in responding to emergency calls faster,” he said.

He also said the integration of the two systems are an extension to the government’s “Malaysia Safe City” concept whereby the local authorities and property developers were required to implement 23 measures to prevent crimes in the development plans of an area, and the installation of CCTVs was one of them.

“The system will be the cornerstone for the enhancement of public safety and security in Malaysia,” said Hishamuddin, adding that MSAFE Putrajaya was the second installation of the initiative after MSAFE Cyberjaya was launched last year.

Zamzamzairani said MERS 999 utilises the latest system similar to those in developed countries such as North America and Europe.

“In fact, MERS 999 is supported by the three emergency response centres located in Kuala Lumpur, Malacca and Kuching which are operated by TM, and 32 call centres operated by relevant agencies,” he said.

He also said MERS 999 has several key advantages and features such as automatic number identification (ANI) and automatic location identification (ALI) for TM fixed lines.

“It is also equipped with a digital map capable of capturing the actual incident site automatically through its sophisticated feature known as geographical information system (GIS). It also records emergency calls via a voice recording feature,” said Zamzamzairani.

"The system creates a unified database for emergency services and with the capability of filtering crank and prank calls, and this will improve efficiency and response time of emergency services in the country."

He also said MSAFE Putrajaya is equipped with 3D Augmented Reality Map with three-dimensional features that are available in the real world by combining it into real footage in real time.

“For instance, when an emergency call is received by a MERS 999 Response Centre, a fullly-trained professional emergency officer (PEO) will attend to the call and upon verification of the incident details, the PEO will connect the caller to the despatch centre at the Putrajaya police headquarters” said Zamzamzairani.

The launching today also saw the handing over of the MSAFE Putrajaya infrastructure to the Home Ministry.
