the design speed is intended to be 160 km/h , it's curently lower because they still have unfinished segments + they don't have the capable locomotives for the speed

CFR will start projects with European funds worth 1.65 billion euro

CFR will start this year, with European funding bid in value of 1.65 billion for work on Corridor IV Pan-European transport, said on Thursday, for AGERPRES Director general manager, Emil Sabo.

He added that, if early, the projects EU funds through the Sectoral Operational Programme Transport were to be launched was 160-180 million euro now has the reached 1.65 billion euros, 3.6 billion allocated to the rail corridor.

CFR to draw EU funds worth EUR 3.6 bln for Corridor IV

Railway company CFR SA wants to draw European funds worth EUR 3.6 bln by 2011, to modernise the Pan-European Transport Corridor IV. To this view, it will hold tenders for the Radna-Curtici and Simeria-Coslariu railway segments until the end of the year, so trains will be able to go at a maximum speed of 160 km/h.

This week, CFR SA will choose the consultant for implementing an up-to-date signaling system named ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management System), upon investments worth RON 1,300,000, Realitatea.net informs.

The modernisation of the Campina-Predeal and Bucharest-Constanta segments of Corridor IV has already started and will end in the summer of 2011, one year after the initial deadline, according to Transport Minister Radu Berceanu.

Works to the Campina-Predeal segment are 60 pc completed, so one of the two lanes will be ready in November this year, the same as 120 bridges, which are now 80 pc ready, the manager of CFR SA announced. In addition, CFR SA wants to lease 30 pc of the areas of 15 railway stations to large retailers, fast-foods, restaurants, bookshops, florists and banks.

I read on newpaper than romanian authorities didn't made railway connection between Ford factory in Craiova and national railway network, Constanta port (cars destination for exportation).

How far is it ? Just a few kilometers ?
