The Queen's Pub in Derby Square is set to close this weekend but will re-open under a new owner/brand.

Its a lot cleaner on a Sunday morning..........
I was taxi`ing 2 of my grandchildren this morning to Sefton Park, and took the opportunity to have a quick look around town. Parked up in Liverpool ONE and headed over to Derby Square, to see if the "litter festival" was still on. Pleased to say that the Square looked almost litter free.
Even spotted a street cleaner attending to the many bins, that are scattered around the area. Have the city put more bins in the area,I must have spotted about 10? ![]() Marks out of ten, say eight, still a bit of dross around the Square and I found broken glass near the steps. Also the passage way from the Square through to Liverpool ONE was very dirty. Yes 95% of the usual amount of litter had been cleared, but the Square needed a jet wash to remove staining that is already apparent on the new paving................. This area was dirty, it`s on the border with Liverpool ONE cleansing team, maybe a breakdown in communications is allowing one team to think the other team is sweeping this spot .......... Spotted at last a street cleaner, doing a grand job![]()

I think the seating is a bit clumpy and cluttered - something like the Parisian style seating round trees would have looked better: image hosted on flickr ![]() http://www.flickr.com/photos/1893916...n/photostream/ Last edited by Portobello Red; August 22nd, 2010 at 10:26 PM. |

Interesting. I had tipped an All Bar One to take the opposite unit to Sakura in Exchange Flags, thought it would work well there. All Bar One is a quality brand and will bring a touch of class to the area IMO.

I thought those were on the way out. They were all over London years ago but I don't see so many nowadays. Still, as 90s chain bar brands go, it beats the cheapo Goose brand that the Queens had in recent years. ABOs tend to get plonked in upmarket locations and so its a reflection of how L One and the public realm improvements in Derby Square have helped a previously fairly grimy part of the city centre go up a few pegs.

Not bad. There's a posh looking place opening opposite, in the Pearl Assurance building too.
Shame to hear Mange Tout has closed though. In times of economic strife, the overpriced butties get it first. |

Do you mean Fuller Fotune? Looks like a uncomfortably chic sandwich shop / boutique dentist!

Why couldn't they have restored the Victoria Memorial at the same time, cleaned the bonzes, reparied the stone work and replaced that hideous cheap railing that has been clumsily inserted at the top of the steps.

Personally I hope this area maintains its 'payday Friday' character.

Derby Square looks really smart now!
I don't have a problem with all the 'kids' being there - I think the youth of today get a really bad name. 99% of them are doing no harm to anyone - it never ceases to amaze me how many of them will stand up to let an old dear sit down on the bus. We were all young once and most of us were far from perfect. |

the monument was cleaned up only a few years ago (before the redevelopment of the square) the railing was added because the kids that started gathering there after chavasse park was shut off to make liverpool one kept vandalising it with graffiti.
