1 Billion Rs worth Football Academy soon in Kochi

Kochi-based Kunnath Pharmaceuticals, manufacturer of a herbal aphrodisiac Muslipower X-tra, is launching a football academy with an investment of Rs.1 billion.

Speaking to media, K.C. Abraham, managing director of Kunnath Pharmaceuticals said his aim is to produce world class players from his academy and see India winning the 2018 World Cup Soccer.

'We have drawn out an elaborate plan of action and we will get in touch with all the state football association to identify talent in the age group of 14-16. From this, we will select 1000 boys and they will be trained for two months in April and May next year,' said Abraham. 'At the end of the training we will select 60 people.'

The main academy is likely to be set up in Kochi and there will be three more such centres across the country.

'The 60 selected boys will be split into four groups. All their expenses will be taken care of and their only agenda will be to play football. We will reward them handsomely as they progress and they will be paid an unbelievable amount of money for just playing football,' said Abraham.

'Once these boys attain age 18 they will be our staff members.'

Muslipower was also the main sponsor of Churchill Brothers Football Club in the last season and this season they are going to revamp the Viva Kerala Football Club.

'My aim is that my boys will win the World Cup in 2018 and it is for that I am spending Rs.100 crore. As the first step I will be taking over the Viva Kerala Football Club based here,' Abraham said.

It was only last month Abranham decided to sponsor the Wayamba team, a Sri Lankan first class cricket team based in Kurunegala.

'It was end of last month the deal for my company sponsoring Wayamba was inked and they will spot our logo on the front and back of the shirt and on the cap at the Champions League T20 tourney to be held in South Africa shortly,' said Abraham.

Kaloor Stadiums comes alive by Oct 17th

Tight security will be arranged for the One-Day International match between India and Australia in Kochi on Oct. 17, said Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) Secretary TC Mathew at a press conference here today.

Mathew said that the renovation work of the international stadium in Kochi is in its final stages. “The roof work and the ground rebuffing work are complete. Rolling of pitch will take place this week. Foreseeing the IPL matches, the wickets are made using the latest sprinkler system. Works are also going on in video box, press box and VIP box.”

Mathew pointed out that the KCA, which has always received complete exemption tax for almost every game, is not getting any this time. “We were told that it was difficult to give salaries to the Corporation employees. We had paid Rs. 43 lakh to the GCDT. But the Corporation works separate from the GCDT. We estimate that we will need to pay an exemption tax of around Rs.50 lakh.”

Around 52,000 seats will be available for the game, with prices and number of seats for each category as follows:

20,000 Gallery seats for Rs. 300
20,000 Upper Tier for Rs.500
2000 Upper Down for Rs. 2,000
1300 Down (Next to players) for Rs. 3,000
600 Premium Box (AC) for Rs. 5,000

Ticket sale will start only 10 days before the match. Mathew said that the KCA has chosen Federal Bank to be its banking partner for all official matches.

There will be no complimentary passes this time, added Mathew. Also, strict checking shall be in place to ensure there is no unauthorised entry.

Mathew said that there is going to be a surprise, because 'something will happen in the stadium for the first time in the world'.

The KCA is also sending its under-16 and under-19 squads to Sri Lanka for training. “It is much cheaper and they will have more exposure,” explained Mathew.

Finally, a mega sporting events coming to our city soon.....

Viva Kerala's grand future

Finally, it has been made official at a press conference in Kochi: Musli Power X-tra of Kunnath Pharmaceuticals will be the main sponsor of Viva Kerala. Present were P. Bhaskaran and Syed Masood of Viva Kerala and K.C. Abraham, the MD of Kunnath Pharmaceuticals.

The engagement of the pharma company involves certain changes at the management level of the football club. P. Bhaskaran will be the new Managing Director while Syed Masood will take the position of the Chairman. Kunnath Pharma's K.C. Abraham will act as a new Director on the Viva Kerala board and added that "This is not a one or a two-year deal...this is for life.". The ambitious man has big plans for Viva and wants the team to aim for the I-League title in the next year.

This season, however, things will be taken slowly. P. Bhaskaran added that further strengthening of the team will be done during the second transfer window. It seems as a relief for the club's fans that a main sponsor could be roped in after almost six years without a title sponsor. This meant a lot of financial burden for involved people, like former MD Liaquat Ali, in the past. These financial worries should be put to rest now as K.C. Abraham also declared that there will be performance-based incentives for the players.

Of the current squad, Africans Bello Rasaq and Charles Dzisah as well as Anil Kumar and Kalia Kulothungan were present at the function.

+++++++++++++++

The news is extremely good, as a dedicated sponsor can surely ensure Viva Kerala remains with Kochi and Kochi becoming India's leading Soccer hub......

Let us pray that Kaloor stadium won't have the same fate of Braborne stadium in Mumbai and Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium in Hyderabad after the emergence of new cricket grounds like Wankhede and Rajiv Gandhi stadiums in the respective cities.

Anyways, no need for panic as this stadium will be the home ground for new football club team from Kochi.

Hope Kaloor will be active in hosting cricket matches too

Lets pray for the best

Mahindra Group launches Youth Football Challenge

Quote:
New Delhi: As part of the Under-14 Schools Football Tournament-cum-Talent Hunt, Mahindra and Mahindra - in association with the Delhi Soccer Association (DSA) - launched the Mahindra Youth Football Challenge (MYFC) here on Friday.
MYFC is a Mahindra Group initiative to develop soccer at the grassroot level in India and for this, the company has roped in Scotland's Celtics Football Club as a partner to train and groom young talent identified during the tournament.

The first season will see MYFC being played at six cities - Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Goa, Bangalore and Kerala. It will kickoff from October 25 with the intra-city leg in Delhi, which will see top 32 schools in the capital fighting it out to be crowned the 'Champion Club'. The winner of intra-city leg from each of the six cities will then play each other to decide the winner of MYFC.
Speaking to reporters at the launch, Mufaddal Choonia of Mahendra and Mahendra said: "We are happy to be part of this initiative...to make a difference to the game of football. When Mahendra makes a promise, it sticks to it."

When asked how Celtic became part of this initiative, he replied, ""We have been talking to most of top clubs because obviously we need a partner who is willing to provide the expertise... We found that Celtic was one club that shared our values.

"If you see how Celtic was even formed, the basis of the formation of Celtic is very similar to grassroot. They were the closest to our value system, shared our visions and values. So, therefore, it was the most natural marriage, if I may say that."

President of DCA, OP Malhotra, commended the steps taken by Mahindra Group and Procam International, the promoters of the tournament. "I must congratulate Mahindra and Procam to put us on the right track. Money is needed. They are ready to provide money...As far as DSA is concerned, we will provide our full cooperation."

As part of the initiative, there will be cash awards on offer. But the most exciting bit for the participating teams is a chance to learn from the visiting Celtics' coaches who will conduct a four-day coaching camp before the inter-city leg starts.

These coaches will also earmark 16 players to undergo further intensive training, following which two to four players will be picked to travel to Scotland.

The Kerala S.zone Intra city matches will be held in Kochi from 13th Dec at Panampilly Nagar High school Grounds.

Have we forgotten those days ?

Cheer up pals! Year 2011 not just for IPL Cricket in Kochi, but it is going to rock the soccer fans also. It is to be believed that at least half a dozen soccer teams in Cochin premier league mulling their hopes to enter into the professional I-league format. The premature exit of FC Kochin from the soccer scene had left a lot of worried minds. Now apart from Josco, Eagles and Golden Threads FC, 3 more corporate firms eying to launch their professional soccer teams in Kochi which is in nascent stages.

Keep watching !

i dont know why govt is holding back approval for this stadium quoting no public support , BCCI will not allow to play cricket anywhere else apart from the stadiums owned by the association , perhaps they may allow the first year matches to be held at Jawahar lal nehru stadium . But after that the association needs to have its own stadium , not for IPL alone , but for all Cricket matches to be held in the state..

dont know why the govt is not understanding this and clearing the file , do they want the entire kochi to line up and exert pressure .. the politicians have already started applying pressure to clear the files.... The prob is there is staunch opposition within the state ... who are having too many vested interests.

its well known that "BCCI’s working committee had descided to not award international matches to associations without own grounds."

This will hurt kerala cricket if govt and vested interest behave like this

IPL CEO to visit Kochi on Dec 16

IPL CEO Sundar Raman and IPL Kochi franchisee members are expected to visit International Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at Kochi, on December 16. Besides IPL CEO, four members of IPL Kochi franchisee, three members from International Management Group (IMG) and Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) officials would be visiting the stadium, KCA Secretary T C Mathew told PTI.

KCA would hold discussins with IPL CEO and Kochi franchisee members on the conduct of the matches, he said.

After several months of uncertainities, recently BCCI gave final clearance for the Kochi franchisee to participate in the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which begins from next April.

I personally dont like him as a person, but his caliber is to be applauded. He sometimes produces jem of a delivery like the 1 to get rid of kallis yesterday which was crucial in India's victory.

I think, he will be there in the team.
