Once a rail yard, prime Osaka site to become 'center of knowledge'

OSAKA — Full-scale work will begin at the end of this month to redevelop the Umeda Kita Yard, north of JR Osaka Station, where about 2.5 million passengers of railways and subway lines pass through daily

The former rail yard occupies about five times the space of Tokyo Dome.

The main structure at the 7-hectare-wide area in the north yard, whose first-stage redevelopment work will begin at the end of this year, is the Knowledge Capital, a state-of-the art technology facility.

The facility will feature showrooms where visitors can see cutting-edge technologies of such powerful Kansai enterprises as Panasonic Corp. and Sekisui House Ltd. A research hub will also open to accommodate engineers from Osaka University, Kyoto University and other universities.

Besides plans for offices, commercial facilities and condominiums, there is also a plan by British hotel chain Intercontinental to move into the area, but details have yet to be determined. The first-stage work will be completed at the end of March 2013.

The theme for the second-stage work at an area some 17 hectares wide is the "environment." A committee made up of the Osaka Municipal Government, the Kansai Economic Federation and businesses has proposed creation of a research institute to pass on to Asia advanced environmental technologies represented by solar batteries produced by Sharp Corp.

When I was posting an answer last week my computer broke down and I forgot about it after I fixed it.

They are Concrete Slurry tanks.

Tower C

No top down construction for this tower, we actually get to see the top of the foundation and the basement floor for a change.

The foundations for Tower A are also completed, the digging out has started straight away.







The foundation machinery is of to the next job.
