KOCHI: The IT turnover in Kerala is expected to touch $ 1 billion in 2010-11 fiscal, Dr Ajay Kumar, the state IT Principal Secretary, said today.

Kerala IT infrastructure is in the process of witnessing multi fold increase, he said speaking at a conference here on Urban Infrastructure titled 'INFRACON' organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and CREDAI, Kochi.

Within a year, the number of IT parks in the state will increase from 2 to 10 for which the government would make an invstment of rs 2500 crore and another rs 7500 crore is expected from the private sector. This would provide direct employment to approximately 2.5 lakh people. The biggest constraint in the growth of IT industry in the state is lack of basic infrastructure, he said.

Kuldip Singh, well known deisgner and town planner said the government has to ensure town planning in all the cities.

P Ganesh, Chairman, CII Kerala said the conference has provided the SWOT analysis of the infrastrucutre scenario in kerala.

Heli taxi service from Kochi to Nilackal

NEDUMBASSERY: Giving a boost to the tourism sector, a heli taxi service will be launched at the Kochi International Airport connecting pilgrim centres and tourist spots across the state.

The helicopter service will be flagged off by CIAL managing director C G Krishnadas Nair at the Kochi airport at 10.30 a.m. on October 9.

Bharath Airways Private Limited, a Bangalorebased establishment, will provide the heli taxi service.

With the introduction of the heli taxi service, the tourism division of the CIAL can provide better services to tourists reaching the state.

Honestly, I really don't think the 'paying passenger' option has any value. The medivac/emergency option may be useful

You can't choose a heli ride at the pearly gates, you see?

You’re being watched!
Quote:
Every step you take I will be watching you... The lyrics by English rock band ‘The Police’ will best describe the new security surveillance system introduced by the Kochi city police, similar to the security surveillance in London city.

Any person travelling in the city will be caught on by a minimum of two security cameras installed at various points.

The Kochi city police under City Police Commissioner Manoj Abraham have taken a valiant effort to rope in the support of all private establishments in the city to implement the comprehensive surveillance system that will help the police trace the movement of people in the city.

Railway stations, bus stand, malls, hotels and key traffic junctions in the city are already under surveillance. These security cameras are linked to the police control room. The Commissioner said 3000 cameras have already been installed at various places in the city and police personnel at the control room are thoroughly monitoring them. “We have taken measures to install the maximum number of surveillance cameras in the city. We have asked private establishments in the city to install video surveillance equipment on their premises facing the road and nearby areas. Round-the-clock video surveillance is vital to prevent crime,” he said.

Manoj Abraham said private establishments and public undertakings have been asked to record the images and store them. The police will be able to check the video footage in case of an emergency. Police departments from other states had visited the city to know more about the surveillance system. Banks and other commercial establishments have already installed the cameras not only on their premises but also outside to monitor the immediate surroundings, he said.

The police said the entire stretch of MG Road will soon be under video surveillance once the shop owners install cameras on their premises.

As it is difficult for the police to monitor the video footages on a daily basis, they have asked the respective private parties to handover the video footages once in a fortnight for the time being.

Reminds me of a Srinivasan dialogue. മുപ്പതു രൂപാ വാടകയുടെ മുറിയില്* ഒരു ഏസി വെച്ചു തരാന്* പറയട്ടേടാ?(shall I ask for an AC in this Rs 30 room?)
