@-Pino-: Here is the link to the "Manual de Dispositivos para el Control del Tránsito en Calles y Carreteras" (Road Signage Handbook) from the Mexican Ministry of Communications and Transportation: http://dgst.sct.gob.mx/index.php?id=602; it is divided in chapters (PDF files, total size approx. 100MB).

@NorthWesternGuy: the length of the expressways (4-lane divided highways) in Guatemala is about 250km. However, I've read that there are several projects going underway that will add another 200km. to the expressway network in the short term. In the long term, I've heard that the road between Tecún Umán (border with Mexico at Ciudad Hidalgo, Chiapas) and Guatemala City (mostly CA-2) will be all expressway.

Probably a forumer from Guatemala can help us in this aspect.
Cheers.

This is a map of 2x2 highways in the country. If someone can confirm that Carreteras are Expressway, Motorways or Dual carriageway

Photos of the CA-1 between the Mexican border and Guatemala City. And at the very end a few pics of the Flores to Belize route in El Petén. Those photos leave the question how that route is officially numbered, since you see many different numbers of the road signs.

Looking for the photos on a larger format? See my Panoramio account.
