The rate will not increase as a result of the square footage reducing - there will be the same number of parts to put together, just slightly less floor sheet.

Matt, I am sure once Shard is constructed, it will set a new trend. Londoner's have always been quite good trendsetters and even today, they are far better than Parisians and Romans in that regard, even better than those in New York.

That is why I like London.

I can't think of a space large enough for this?! Definitely not the Sapphire space. Armoury and Chestnut have the space, but would be right behind City Hall (no way jose). Oh well! We can wait! Really exciting to see the floors start to climb around the core!

Nothing in London matches its surroundings. That's London. It's a haphazard city and we love it that way.

Is there a race on between The Shard and Mercury City Tower in Moscow to be completed first and become Europe's tallest?

Let's play nice, not start another argument on the subject, and be happy that Europe is building multiple supertall skyscrapers!

Top of the crane gives us a small idea of roughly how tall this beauty is gonna be.

I was wondering about this the other day. Us SSC'ers are quick to correct people when they say the Shard will be the tallest in Europe when finished.

But it looks like it is indeed a very close race between this and the Moscow tower.

At least it'll be the tallest in the EU which is something decent.

It's currently 225m high? Well there you go, the Shard is currently as tall as 122 Leadenhall will be - that's pretty mega!
Great updates, as always! Will hopefully get up to London one weekend and see the Shard in person! Wonder if the University's organising a site visit for the Civ. Eng. students...

Most iconic buildings stand out. When the Eiffel tower was built I am sure it also looked out of place.

After a while people got used to it. Now you can't imagine Paris without it.

The same thing will happen with the Shard IMHO.
