2 Louisians top geo, interior design board exams

by Oliver T. Baccay

Tuguegarao City (3 November) -- Two (2) graduates of the University of Saint Louis Tuguegarao (USLT) were among the ten topnotchers in two different board examination results released by the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC).

Dr. Emmanuel James P. Pattaguan, USLT-Vice President for Administration, said Ms. Precious Navarro is the 5th placer in the geodetic engineering board examination and Mr. Jaime Fernandez is also the 5th placer in the Interior Design Board exam.

Pattaguan said the two are added to the list of topnotchers from the university in the national board examinations.

Likewise, USLT also congratulated all other board passers of USLT in the different board examinations administered by PRC.

"The latest are our CPA board passers with a high, undisputed passing percentage rating which is something the university is proud of", Pattaguan said.

In the CPA board exam results, the University obtained 77.59 percent of passing rate with 45 passers out of 58 examinees.

Pattaguan added that they are also praying for the success of their examinees in the nursing board exams held last month. The result of the nursing board exam is expected to be released in February next year.

Last year, USLT is one among the universities nationwide who topped in the nursing board exams nationwide. (PIA 2)

Ang ganda! i admire the architect.

[edit] History
[edit] Dagupan Institute
The University of Pangasinan started operation in 1925 as the Dagupan Institute. It was founded by the late Dean Francisco Benitez of the University of the Philippines, who became the chairman of the Board of Directors; the late Dr. Apolinario delos Santos, then President of the University of Manila; the late Dr. Mariano delos Santos, then Dean of the University of Manila; Dr. Sylvestre Pascual; and the late Dr. Blas F. Rayos, then Dean of the College of Education of the University of Manila. Dr. Rayos became the President of the school and headed it for 45 years until 1975 when he died and was succeeded by his son, George O. Rayos, who sat as president of the institution until 1987.

The Dagupan Institute was officially opened with elementary, secondary and vocational courses as initial offerings. In 1937, the College of Liberal Arts was established with the late President Blas F. Rayos Sr. as its first Dean.

[edit] Dagupan Junior College
In 1941, the school was renamed the Dagupan Junior College. Its operation was interrupted by the outbreak of World War II in December of that year. It resumed operation in 1945 immediately after the war. Four courses were added to its offering soon after. These were (1) Civil Engineering, (2) Architecture, (3) Graduate School, and (4) Secretarial Science. Shortly thereafter, additional courses were offered such as Secondary Education, Law, Home Economics, Nursing, and Commerce, with major in Accounting, Management, Banking and Finance, and Economics.

[edit] Dagupan Colleges
In 1950, the school assumed the name Dagupan Colleges and the Graduate School enriched its offerings with the addition of courses leading to the degrees of Master of Arts in Philosophy and Master of Science in Business Administration. Aware of the need to maintain a remarkable performance in the board examinations, particularly for Nursing graduates, the school started to offer a review class in Nursing in 1954. Eventually, review classes in Accounting, Civil Engineering and Law were offered. The year 1959 saw further expansion of curricular offerings with the opening of courses leading to the degrees of Bachelor of Science in Foods and Nutrition, and Bachelor of Science in Journalism.

Within the next decade following were done: the organization of Naval Reserve Officers' Training Corps (NROTC) and the Naval Women's Auxiliary Corps in 1960, and the offering of the Sanitary Engineering course in 1965.

[edit] University Status
On July 3, 1968, the college was converted into a university by virtue of the University Charter granted by the Department of Education. Thereforth, the school operated as the University of Pangasinan.

In 2009, it became a member of the PHINMA Education Network.
