I've no idea about the max speed of N-700 series.
Anyway, N-700 is used only on Tokaido and Sanyo Shinaksen Lines. Thus, the operation speed of 300 km/h is enough for N-700.
As you know, 500 series also can run at the speed of over 300km/h easily, but 500 series was the vehicle with overspec for the venerable old Tokaido tracks. That's why 700 series, more simplified version, was thrown in there. N-700 is the successor car to 700.

JR East's new 'Fastech' bullet train unveiled to press


(Kyodo) _ East Japan Railway Co. unveiled its new shinkansen, the Fastech, which is designed to be the world's fastest bullet train, to the press during a test run on Wednesday.
The Fastech logged 366 kilometers per hour during the test run. JR East plans for the train to run at 360 kph from 2011 when the Tohoku Shinkansen Line, currently linking Tokyo and Hachinohe, Aomori Prefecture, will be extended further north to Shin-Aomori Station.

The Fastech, which started test runs in June, has run a total length of 30,000 km. It recorded 398 kph in August.

The test car, which left Sendai Station in Miyagi Prefecture shortly after 12 a.m. Wednesday, exceeded the maximum speed of 275 kph for the Tohoku Shinkansen Line and accelerated up to 366 kph by the time it passed Kurikoma Kogen Station in the prefecture.

The test car shook somewhat when the train exceeded 300 kph. It ended the run at Kitakami Station in Iwate Prefecture.

Takashi Endo of JR East's Technology Planning Department said that "achieving the 360 kph-operation seems solid" but added that the company will continue working to improve the next-generation model such as by reducing the noise and enhancing comfort. ADVERTISEMENT



The test car is designed to measure the shaking and the ride quality.

The train's passenger compartments feature a neo-futuristic atmosphere and seats are red or dark green.

If commercial operations at 360 kph are achieved, it would take less than three hours to travel between Tokyo and Shin-Aomori stations, JR East has said.

The Sanyo Shinkansen Line and the French national railway are currently operating at 300 kph.

It's a Shinkansen for export to P.R. China.
The Shinkansen for China is based on type E2, and its operation speed is around 200 km/h.
The photos were taken at the factory of Kawasaki Heavy Industries in Kobe.
Currently Shinksens for domestic JR, Taiwan, and China are being made there.

FYI. Taiwan Shinkansen (type 700T, which is based on type 700. Operation speed is 300 km/h.)

China to order 60 Japan bullet trains

China plans to place an order for 60 Japanese high-speed Shinkansen "bullet" trains to upgrade the country's railway system, according to a Japanese news report Monday.
The trains are modeled on East Japan Railway Co's high-speed "Hayate" trains, which travel at up to 170 mph, Kyodo News agency reported, citing unidentified industry sources.
The orders will be placed with Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd., one of six companies that won contracts last year with China's Railway Ministry to improve key railway lines, the report said. Other companies involved in this railway project include Alstom SA of France and Bombadier Inc. of Canada.
A spokesman from Kawasaki Heavy said the company was in talks with China, but could not confirm the specifics of the Kyodo report.
"Our negotiations on the project are still continuing and we cannot comment on its details," said Masahito Kodera, the spokesman.
Under the plan, China aims to double the speed of trains on five railway lines to 125 miles per hour, using Japan's bullet train technology.
Kawasaki Heavy Industries' successful bid was made with Chinese partner Nanche Sifang Locomotive Co.
