Why Thailand future economic forecast doesn't seem so good?

ตอนนี้เรารู้ว่า ส่วนPhilippine แซง GDPของประเทศไทยไม่ได้เพราะประเทศ GDP มันต่ำกว่าเมืองไทย 2เท่า ตอนนี้เวียดนามตกห่าง 3.5เท่ากว่าเมืองไทย

ปัจจุบัน ประเทศไทย GDP เกีอบ 9,000 USD
Philippine GDP ต่ำกว่า3,500 USD
Vietnam GDPประมาณ 2,500 USD

ตอนนี้ประเทศสิงคโปร์กะมาเลเซีย เป็นประเทศรวย เนื่องจาก GDP (income per capita)เท่านั้น สุงในอาเซียนแต่ GDP in billions of USD น้อยกว่าเมืองไทย
อยากรู้ว่าประเทศไทยได้ GDP for (income per capita) เท่าไรในปี2050?? มีข้อมูลไหม?? My opinion, เชื่อว่าทั้งสองประเทศแซงGDPของประเทศไทยเป็นไปไม่ได้อยู่แล้วแต่GDP in billions of USD ของประเทศฟิลิปปินส์กะเวียดนามจะสูงกว่าเมืองไทยแน่นอนเหมือนกับ สิงคโปร์และ มาเลเซีย

And who cares if Thailand will be in the top 20? The central region and part of the southeastern region will be quite wealthy in up to 20 years. The prospects for the rest of the country are harder to tell - though I suspect there is quite some hidden wealth in the farming hinterland which isn't reflected well by statistics (which, I guess, is the cause Thailand doesn't suffer from bloated cities full of slums inhabited by migrants from the countryside like so many other emerging economies).

Anyway I think it's not because Thais will get older, but Thailand lacks a full stream of evolutionary thinking.
The establishments are too feared of change and always be too conservative, dragging down lots of potential.
We have to lookout the world and prepare for the coming chance or threat. But unfortunately the rich are satisfied with their current position and be too passive to push the poor grow up to be a main source of the country's power. We lost many chances to take a long stride for many times in the past, including 1992 and 2006 coup.
And that made we could not build up a constitution of growth, for example we can not have our own technology, we can not have enough high quality skill workers, we hardly have a new successful entrepreneur, we have poor infrastructure, we have too small middle class population, we are too strict on controlling people's thoughts, etc.

People, why do you pay so much attention to this "prediction"? Seriously, if these "experts" couldn't foresee the US financial meltdown in 2008, how can you take them seriously for what's going to happen in the next ten years, let alone 50 years?

The rough trend might be true. But there are many many many variable factors that cannot be controlled. And most of all, what do you think will happen when the oil starts to run out in the next 20-30 years? Who can predict what would happen next? More wars for the remaining resources? Instability throughout the world community? Another world war? What if we can't solve the climate crisis and the sea level rises? NY, LA, Tokyo, Shianghai, SG, MNL and even BKK go under water? etc. etc. ? ... Admit it, no one knows. One thing I know for sure is we would be relatively okay as long as our population does not explode and remains stable like this. We are in a relatively secure and self-sufficient in terms of food supply, and that's what matters. You can't eat gold nor dollars.

So stop taking these things seriously and make today the best we can ... How about trying to figure it out how our society can be independent of foreign oil and be self-sustainable in renewable energy, green industries, etc?

One thing seems certain to me: The myriads of rubber farmers in Thailand are sitting on veritable gold mines. Once oil and thus synthetic rubber becomes prohibitively expensive, natural rubber prices will go through the roof. In fact the prices already are at record levels.

nobody can predict the future as far as 2050! Even the Chinese admit that they do not see themselves having a larger GDP than the US, at least not within 20 years. If we can solve our political problems, we will be way better off than forecast.

True. With the PAD no longer supporting the Democrat, and with Thaksin announcing that he will directly influence Thailand's policies, there is a high probability that Puea Thai will win this upcoming election and start a new chain of political rallies. I think Democrats would need a miracle to win the vote, even the thaksin hater don't vote for them now. But for Newin he always join the winning side, so may be we still have to see him(his party) in the goverment after the next election.
