Protection of British Colonial Architecture

Hi everyone!

Hoping you can help me out -

I'm trying to find examples of British colonial architecture located in the former British Empire (India, Singapore, HK, Malaysia, South Africa, etc) that has been preserved or restored.

Even more specifically, I'm hoping to find examples of this restoration going on WITH British help/support.

Some examples:

- Falmouth Post Office, Jamaica. Restored in 2003 with funds from the Georgian Society of Jamaica and Friends of the Georgian Society of Jamaica (UK).

- St Andrews, Dalhousie Square, Kolkata. 2009, with support from Scottish Government.

- St James Church, Delhi. Restored 1996-2001, with some support from HRM the Queen, INTACH UK Trust, British Council.

Can you think of any other examples of recent restorations of this sort of architecture?

Well, the Empire once encompassed Canada, Aus. and NZ as well. I can't think of any architecture in Canada restored or preserved with any connection to British help, though.
At least not in a century or so..

Hi Taller, Better -

I wonder whether the reason the British haven't lent any support in Canada is because they haven't needed to due to Canada's financial stability?

I guess it makes more sense in the developing nations for some form of British involvement as there may be more need for financial support.

What do you think?

Absolutely! There is no need to donate money to Canada or Australia to repair our historical buildings.

A lot of British colonial structures are being preserved in India.. Nearly all of it is without British aid.. These structures are protected by the Indian Laws. In Kolkata, the preservation got first tracked in the last decade... Some of it also involved experts from both the countries..
Good news is that, most of the colonial buildings here are used by the govt. so are well kept..

Most of those in Singapore had been restored. Our old Supreme Court, City Hall and Victoria Theatre / Victoria Concert Hall is now under restoration
