Singapore Airlines Cargo adds 2 new destinations

April 16, 2011, 2:25am

Quote:
MANILA, Philippines – Singapore Airlines Cargo has added two destinations to its Asian network using Boeing 747 freighters.

The airline resumed Boeing 747-400 freighter operations to Kolkata in India after a two-year hiatus, and started serving a new destination, Penang in Malaysia.

The new freighter capacity will complement the ‘bellyhold’ space available from Singapore Airlines’ daily passenger services between Singapore and Kolkata. (EHL)

Kanpur-Kolkata flight to start from Apr 27

Kanpur, Apr 16 (PTI) With the installation of Instrument Landing System at Ahirwan airport here, the flight service on Kanpur-Kolkata route is set to start from April 27."The flight service from Kanpur to Kolkata will start from April 27," local MP and Union Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal said here adding that "Kanpur is an industrial city and there was a long pending demand from the business class to start a flight on this route." Efforts will also be made to start flights to other major cities across the country, he said.Earlier, flight service from Kanpur was operational only to Delhi but it was irregular during winter season due to low visibility and landing on the airport was possible only during the day when visibility is around 2000 metres.Instrument Landing System will enable landing of aircrafts in poor visibility conditions and thereby avoiding cancellations and delays, airport in-charge P K Jha said.PTI ZIR KVS

Welcome news. I don’t know why much of Bihar,UP and Punjab remains unconnected to Kolkata by air although there are good rail road connectivity.

Great pics LabanHrad,

There seems to have been good progress over the last four-five months. Does anyone know if the insides of existing terminals will be renovated?

Also there are so many International passengers disembarking at Kolkata who are forced to take trains to reach their hometowns in Jharkand, Bihar and Orissa owing to bad air connectivity!!
