few months back i told that i would rather wait for 2 more years and prefer a PPP based bus service rather than a bus service by HR via jnnurm(at that time fbd was geeting a sarkari city bus service)

half of it has come true .. fbd me city bus service sirf papers pe hai .. they have got their 1st batch of volvo's and mini buses but it eludes most of the residential areas

now coming to the 2nd half .. time will tell if the private players can play a decent feeder service to the metro .. in ggn

yupp .. the speed of execution has been slow specially in past 2 years

+ve - NPR(dwarka expway) ,SPR, RMRG , signal free road from shankar chowk to golf course road

-ve - city bus service, bad condition of roads etc etc

newayz, the bus station/city bus service aint coming atleast before end of 2012 ( if the world doesnt end by 2012 )

i sometimes wonder if we can have RMRG, airport line and a decent enough bus service by 2013, it would have a signifigant impact on traffic ......

MAPPED FOR COMFORT: Surveys reveal that these roads see the most traffic at all times of the day due to lack of space on either side of the roads

THE ROAD AHEAD: The focus is on decongesting the most clogged-up roads

NOIDA’S ROAD MAP FOR A SMOOTHER DRIVE

Authority officials have drawn a blueprint to widen, strengthen and redesign roads so that everyone who wants to be a part of this most desired residential and industrial hub steers clear of any chaos that can be caused by traffic jams
Vandana Keelor | TNN

The cityscape of Noida is all set to change. With the city being caught in a continuous jam, the Noida Authority, in consultation with its advisory agency, RITES (Rail India Technical and Economic Services) has drawn up a blueprint to steer its residents clear of the chaos.

The makeover plans include six elevated roads, 10 underpasses and flyovers, besides wider, better and well-engineered roads.

While strengthening of roads will be done with IIT Roorkee’s inputs, engineers of the Authority are working out ways and means to upgrade and develop infrastructure.

The Authority has also started to remove overhead electric wires and shift them underground along some congested roads.

Bridge flanges across the Kalindi Kunj barrage and the Shahdara drain are also to be extended.

Says Mohinder Singh, Noida Authority Chairman, “Our efforts are to provide the city with a futuristic infrastructure that will cater to the rate of growth being witnessed.” He adds, “Currently, while for some of the projects’ technical consultants have been appointed, several projects are awaiting finalization of the Detailed Project Reports (DPR) before implementation.” Estimated to cost over Rs 3,000 crore, once work begins the projects are expected to be completed within a period of 18 to 24 months.
The decision to upgrade the city’s road infrastructure came in the wake of a study conducted in September 2010 by IIT Roorkee engineers. They identified and quantified various types of traffic problems and thereafter recommended a plan of action. They studied and recommended necessary improvements in the existing road network, widening and strengthening of roads, redesigning of cross-sections and construction of flyovers, underpasses and elevated roads. The scope of the study included traffic intensity and volume at 15 prominent locations for a road length of 60 km.

Explains the chief maintenance engineer (CME), Yadav Singh, “The focus is on decongesting the most clogged-up roads of the city. As suggested by our consultants, the construction of the elevated roads, underpasses and flyovers will take place in a phased manner. Elevated corridors will be constructed along the Master Plan road-I, II, III and the DSC road.” Traffic surveys have revealed that these roads see heavy traffic during all times of the day. Moreover, due to lack of space on either side of these roads, they cannot be widened, hence the need for elevated corridors. The elevated corridors will be four-lane roads and provided with left turns or exits. “Besides the underpasses, which are proposed to be built at strategic locations across the city, the widening of the bridges on the Shahdara drain and the Kalindi Kunj barrage will definitely ease traffic movement,” adds the officer.
The Authority has also approved a proposal to build another expressway from Gautam Buddha Nagar to Faridabad. Once completed, the expressway will offer commuters direct connectivity to Faridabad and they will be able to avoid the massive jams seen on the route. The 75-m wide expressway will start from Sector 150, on the outskirts of Noida. A four-lane bridge will also be built on the Yamuna, taking the expressway to Faridabad. The plan has been included in Noida’s Master Plan-2031 by the planning department and the proposal has now been sent to the state government for approval.
PROPOSED ELEVATED ROADS 1 On Master Plan Road-II from Vishwa Bharti Public School to Shopprix Mall in sector 61 2 On Master Plan Road-III from sectors 60, 61 & 71 crossing to NH-24 3 On DSC road from sectors 41, 49 crossing to sectors 82, 110 crossing 4 On Master Plan Road-I from sectors 10, 12, 21, 21A crossing to sectors 12, 22, 56 crossing 5 Road from sectors 19 and 27 up to Spice Mall at the crossing of sectors 21A and 25 6 On Master Plan Road-II extension of Film City flyover up to Atta Chowk underpass PROPOSED UNDERPASSES 1 On Master Plan Road-II at the crossing of sectors 21A, 22 and 24, 25A 2 At the crossing of sectors 21, 21A and 25, 25A 3 At the crossing of sectors 36, 37, 38A & 39 4 At the crossing of sectors 25, 25A and 31, 32 5 At Atta Chowk and Max Hospital crossing 6 At the crossing of sectors 94 and 95 7 On Master Plan Road-III at the crossing of sectors 71, 72, 52, 51 8 On Master Plan Road-III at the crossing of sectors 39, 35, 32 & 51 9 On the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway at sectors 94 and 124 PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS ON EXISTING ROADS 1 Improvement of service road on T-point of sectors 32, 36 and 39 2 Extension of flanges on bridge across Shahdara drain 3 Extension of flanges on bridge across Kalaindi Kunj barrage

Delhi govt eyes pod car system

TIMES NEWS NETWORK

New Delhi: Pod car transport system may soon be introduced in the capital. On Tuesday,Delhichief minister Sheila Dikshit asked the transport department andtheDelhiIntegratedMultimodalTransit System (DIMTS)tocomeout with a detailed project report (DPR) on the pod car system. Dikshit, who was given a presentation on the pod car by a private company, said that the DPR would be executed on a priority basis.
Speaking about the system, Dikshit said, “We are willing to consider a new modern, convenient, pollution-free and affordable City Pod Car System to supplement the existing modes of public transport in the capital.” Marking the pod car as a pilot project, Dikshit added that the system would be ideal for confined areas such as ITPO, Dwarka subcity, Karol Bagh, east Delhi, Delhi University northcampus andother such areas as it would supplement the existing modes of public transport and could be an alternative to private vehicles.
“The new system, which may be termed as a personal rapid transit, will be the most suitable for a sustainable future,” added a government source. According to officials, the new system can be commissioned in a limited space with poles of 40 cm in diameter and elevated track having 1.6m width. The private company which gave the presentation has also offered to commission the project with their own resources. Officials said that since the project would not require any financialinputfrom the city government, it would be economically viable as far as commuters are concerned. The average fare of the pod will come to be around Rs 6 per km, said an official. The pod with a capacity to carry seven passengers will be propelled by a battery.

Oh, this is exciting ..Once I read this in today's newspaper ..I contacted my uncle in transportation department ( he work's at Assistant Director level) and He said this will be implemented in Delhi and its not just another discussion.

He says that Shiela Dixit is in favor of implementing this transportation method and will be starting work on it much sooner than expected.

thats a great news according to me...

What he also said is MONORAIL to will get a nod soon...it has been approved by Delhi Govt and are just waiting for Central Govt Nod...
Central govt first wants to see it up & running n Mumbai to judge its performance .

Haryana Roadways Now Start Mudrika Bus Services In Gurgaon

Who would wait for 30 minutes for a bus? And that 30 min can turn into 60 min because of traffic congestion. And then HUDA will say the response to buses was bad which means that Gurgaon does not need buses.

BTW, what are the 3 route of these buses?

trust me i know them very well , 2 years from gurgaon bus stand to anand niketan in new delhi ( school ) made me realise their pottential

few years back HR purchased those chinese low floor buses, only 2-3 out of those 10 ply and in a city like ggn which is full of corporates, these ppl couldnt find an advertisement for these buses ( they still have those torn out HUDA advertisements blah blah)

DO YOU KNOW praaji DTC has threatned to stop plying their low floor buses in ggn because there is a huge crater right in front of the bus stand (which should have been nuked long time ago btw) and despite several warnings by both DTC and HR drivers, no one bothered to repair that and as a result it has result in those low floor buses breaking down

the only way an city bus service can run successfully in ggn is when a private player steps in, builds terminals, bus stops, and should EXTENSIVELY use advertisements to increse its revenue etc etc

many ppl from ggn work in DDA/MCD and other delhi offices and so starting chartered buses for them should also be an option

i dont see all this happening in another 2 years

2013-2014 CAN be a landmark year for ggn transportation if we can have RMRG + Airport line + bus service

if only .............

Drawing inspiration from the national Capital, the integrated mobility plan prepared by the Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) for Gurgaon envisages a major shift to public transport by 2031, when the population is estimated to touch the 43-lakh mark. By the next decade, Gurgaon will have a ring road, outer ring road and 74 kms of bus rapid transit (BRT) corridor which is expected to be ready by 2016.

Keeping in tune with the growing population and traffic volume, the vision document plans a major revamp to strengthen the road network.

According to the senior town planner, the report has been approved by Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) administrator Nitin K Yadav and is in the implementation stage.According to figures released by the department, only 33% residents will depend on private transport 20 years from now, as compared to 82% at present.

With an aim to reduce traffic congestion on city roads, authorities hope to increase use of public transport, mainly bus commutes, from the present 4% to 61%.

With a total cost outlay of R15,140 crore, the plan has been divided into three phases - 2009-16, 2017-2021 and 2022-2031.

In first phase they will discuss whether Gurgaon needs them (BRT and roads) or not. If results of the first phase are positive, then in second phase they will discuss whether it's better to invest in these projects or to stash the money in Swiss banks. If they choose former option then in third phase they will invite consultants to review the project as the cost has already escalated since last one calculated 20 years back. Based on consultant's report future phases will be laid out.
