Hi... Looks very promising, my french is unfortunately not so good so I want to ask two things. What is MDP and is there a consultant the projects? Or will it be designed "in house" by the ministry of transports???
best regards

Does anybody have any news when the Tunis - Erriadh electrified service will start?
What is planned to happen with the existing DK locomotives and rolling stock once the services are electrified?

Maghreb high line speed project progresses with a meeting in Tunis

The technical study for the achievement of the Maghreb high speed railway line was the focus of a working session held in Tunis on 29 February 2012. The meeting was attended by Tunisia’s Transport Minister Abdelkarim Harouni along with representatives of the European Commission, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Transport Ministers Group of the Western Mediterranean (GTMO 5+5).

The 800-kilometre high speed line on the Tunisian territory is to link the Algerian borders in the north and the Libyan borders in the south.

Taking the floor, Abdelkarim Harouni pointed out that the transparency conditions prevailing in Tunisia constitute a guarantee for the achievement of joint projects. He also spoke of the difficulties confronting the transport sector in Tunisia as a result of bad management before the Revolution. The minister underlined the need to urgently proceed with in-depth reforms in the sector, including in particular restructuring companies, improving their profitability and upgrading infrastructure. The European delegation voiced readiness to offer the necessary assistance in logistic means and in know-how for the achievement of the high speed line.

Tunisian railway colleagues complete IRaTCA training programme

IRaTCA completed a programme on the Operation and Maintenance of EMU for Tunisia, held from 29 September to 14 October.

Tunisia is the third country in Africa following Egypt and Algeria to follow a single IRaTCA training programme as one country. This course was held following a request to rearrange the course schedule out of consideration for Tunisia’s political situation.

The curriculum was designed for trainees to learn about KORAIL’s advanced railway system through specialist lectures and technical visits requiring them to play an active role in the Team Project, in which they seek as many solutions as possible to a number of issues.

The trainees showed a very positive and participatory attitude throughout the whole training period. They visited Goyang KTX depot, IT centre, KARST (Korea Airport Railway Seoul Station Terminal), Guro CTC (Centralised Traffic Control) centre and Seoul Station for a study visit, which represent KORAIL’s up-to–date railway infrastructure. Their enthusiastic desire to learn about KORAIL’s advanced railway system was confirmed by their endless questions in and out of the classroom.

In the congratulatory speech given by Mr Paeng Jung-Goang, KORAIL’s new Vice-President, it was stated that “IRaTCA opened its first railway training course for Tunisia, which is very meaningful. We have been able to take the first step to achieve co-prosperity by maintaining this kind of training programme to secure a tight friendship and to broaden our understanding of each other”.

In the reply speech, Mr Rafik Khelifi said “We thank KORAIL for supporting and implementing a very interesting training course for us. We were able to recognise the success of the Korean railroad. Now we can go back to our country encouraged by future cooperation with KORAIL”.

IRaTCA will continue its efforts to be the best railway training institute in Asia, expanding the training programme in the African continent.

MISE EN SERVICE DES NOUVEAUX TRAINS DE LA BANLIEUE SUD 2 Com(s) 06-04-2012 08:30:55

NEW ELECTRIFIED SERVICE IN TUNISIA

on April 18, 2012 in Tunisia

On 6 April, electric trains started running from the southern suburbs of Borj Sedria and Riadh into the Tunisian capital Tunis. The new sets, which will work 158 trips daily, replace 30-year-old diesel rolling stock. They can attain 120km/h and the new schedules reduce commuting times by 26%. Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Tunisiens (SNCFT – the Tunisian National Railways) initiated the project as a step towards reducing the fuel dependence of Tunisia’s trains and at the same time help preserve the environment. It is estimated that maintenance costs will be cut by 75% and outlay on energy by 45%.
