Yeah, and there's a building in Honolulu that has 44 floors packed into 350 ft. A 'scraper of that height can't have that many floors packed into it.

I'm no expert, but it seems plausible to me that there 105 stories. But I wouldn't put it past them to fudge the numbers a bit. Maybe they are counting underground floors as well? It seems unlikely but... but... what the hell do I know? It's late and I'm out of beer.

Burj Khalifa has almost the same height/floors ratio at 828m with 162 floors

Priceless, haha.

And, 330m for 105 floors is right, hotels are comparable to residential towers which have a standard 3m floor to floor, so taking that, there would be 15m spare for the tip of the cone.

The lobby for this building would probably span two floors, instead of one high ceiling-ed one.

I'm glad this building was completed now because I don't think 80's glass would have looked as good as this-if you ask me this building borders on being iconic(that overused word)

it actually is iconic, since it is the first supertall to be built in a regime like that and it kinda represents the country. it would have been kinda cool to see a statue of the great leader on top though

As long as I don't remember where it is build and by who I think of it as of a really great piece of architecture. Why would you ruin it like that?

Remember when ORASCOM got the contract, the news was that EMAAR (the developer of Burj Khalifa and other projects in Dubai) was also involved and some mining rights were part of the overall deal?

We all said, what the heck has EMAAR to do with mining and minerals ... Well, now that's exactly what EMAAR's Chairman new private business venture is: http://www.arabianbusiness.com/emaar...re-397880.html

Will the Ryugyong have a long antenna on the top or a bunch of mashed up tv satellites and phone antennas?

That would be somehow difficult to achieve with the pointy shape of the top

Making good progress!

There also seems to be quite some demolition going on in the city...

Quite scary to see the amount of workers on the roofs!

Building at the centre (a theatre?) looks like it's new:
