The most liberating camera I've ever used in handheld noiseless(ish) lowlight shots. However, you still need a decent lens

As you know I have the 50mm f1.8 could you recommend a good zoom lens aswell ? Most seem to be DX now which is pointless on an FX

thanks in advance

Hola Medo!

Well, I took your advice and bought this lens while I was in Japan - managed to find it for roughly £165 in a tiny little camera store tucked away down a street in Ginza, Tokyo. Been really pleased with it so far, so ta matey!

Hai guize, look what I'm playing with this weekend...

As I haven't got a spare grand, it's a 24mm tilt-shift on hire. Will report back soon with the results on my trusty D40.

Initial results are promising... can't figure out the metering so it's trial-and-error.

I know it's early days, and a bit cliched, but I'm totally blown away by the quality of this camera! The images are incredibly sharp and rich in detail, even in the relatively poor lighting conditions I've been using... can't wait to give it it's first proper 'road test'.. watch this space..
Stunning, gorgeous and wonderful - the kiddy and your pictures of him. Fantastic.

Anyone got to recommend some good telephoto (24-105mm - 18-135mm) lenses for Nikon with low barrel/pincushion distortion?

I know my 80-200 f/2.8 AF-D has almost no distortion on a DX body - there aren't many zooms around without distortion I can think of (it's one of the design compromises which must be made).

You're best off going with a longish prime say a 105 f/2.8 or 85 f/1.8 if you need controlled distortion.

Super zoom lenses on D50 and D100 bodies.

My wife is looking at the Tamron and Sigma 18-250 /270 lenses.
The Tamron with the piezo motor sounds great, but is more expensive.

QUESTION! On the older body with the screw motor built in, which takes precedence?

No point in paying for features that will not work. Currently the Nikkor 55-200 is performing perfectly, but I'm still not sure if it is the camera or the lens that is doing the focusing.

It appears that the camera takes priority, so it's last years Tamron, save £200!
