Photos taken (rather swiftly) of prints on the walls of the stairs in the old Wellasly Hotel development - City Central.
One day I'll get some decent (in focus!! sorry) shots.

That Norwich Union building in City Square looks rather nice!

It's the one building i wish they hadn't demolished in the '60s. Except it was probably filthy and small in reality.

Say what you like about the '50s, at least they had trams!

The tram in the upper picture was I think a cast off from Southampton.
In the lower picture the foremost tram was also from Southampton whilst behind it was a home grown 1920's 'Chamberlain' model (named after the head of Leeds City Transport Department at the time). The tram at the back was a cast off from London.

lol. What a surprise we have to buy up other city's cast-offs. And they say Yorkshireman are tight with their money?!

I heard those old trams had really stiff seats, the age of austerity, eh?

The tram systems in those cities were starting to run down before Leeds and their rolling stock must have been going cheap. One cast off from Sunderland was a very modern looking (and quiet) single decker.

As for the stiff seats - people were hardier then !

The tram pictures are very interesting. My dad used to drive a tram (in Bradford) but well before I was born; I have never had the pleasure of riding in a tram.

What these pictures brought to mind, though, was a question to which I have never found an answer. Why, when most other road vehicles have two headlamps (presumably to delineate their width to other observers) do many trams have a single headlamp in the middle?
