Yup the History Museum site would be the best site. Right near the shops, condo projects, and on the streetcar line connecting it to Ybor and Downtown. Edit- That also is just about the worst spot for the FAA however.

You know, I almost think both a ride (the wheel) or a tower is a waste in this case...

We need to move people back and forth between two places as well as give some novelty to attract tourists. Why aren't we doing a Sky gondala thing between the mainland and the beaches? I mean, we'll pay hundreds of millions for bridges for cars but we barely encourage pedestrians.

just a thought

OMG, do it. I think that would be a great location, even if Tampa isn't the type of city to have one. Tell them to scrap the history musuem, I didn't even like it, and make this happen. The only question is, what is there to observe besides the skyline and scenary?

What else would you observe besides the skyline and scenery? Put a rotating restraunt up there. Make the Observation deck an actaul attration. Maybe put the History Musum, or atleast some of it on top of the observation tower if you don't expect a large crowd for it anyway. There is an infinite amount of ways to make an observation tower worth it.

If all you want to do is look at the skyline and scenery, send me an email, and I will take you flying from Peter O.
If you want a space needle, do what Florida Future and make it a museum or restaurant or both. But please, please, not with the proportions of the original O2 idea. It looked like... man, metaphor fails me. It was hideous, is what it was.
