Why is there so much secrecy? come on , it is an airport and not a gold mine at your neigbour´s compound.

one reads about the construction every now and then but an air of mystery surrounds the project that is quite bewildering.
, welcome to Angolan political behavior...secrecy always secrecy...They wan't create some shock/excitement when they finally unveil to the electorate.
It can be very annoying!

A blink into the future :)

Nice going, skytrax !

Looks like we are going to need flights from 4 de Fevereiro to the new airport! It's quite far from Luanda. Or maybe a high-speed train?

I think so too, MHTripple. I hope the public transports and taxis will start working properly and be reliable, otherwise it is going to be another problem for travellers.

4 de Fevereiro will be close. I heard the new airport will have shuttles to city center and train service. But is difficult to be sure since everything is so secret.

Yes I know 4 de Fevereiro will be closed, I was just joking a bit.

Well I hope TAAG will take advantage of this new airport, and transform it into a real hub (like Nairobi and Addis Ababa). Although for this to happen, Angola will have to re-think their visa policies. Sorry to say, but they are completely ridiculous.

I agree with you. Well I don't need visas to Angola, but because my countries has all the stupid policies it's for me very hard to get visas to other countries has well..

Finally some pics!...but honestly, where are the construction cranes???? Is it on hold?

Well, I am happy to see that it really exists...they keep it so much in secrecy just like a small kid treasures his most favourite cuddly toy.

new airport for 2014

Luanda, Angola, 25 Aug – The Angolan Ministry of Transports aims to have three international airports functioning by 2012, the ministry’s infrastructure director told Angolan National Radio.

Improvement work at the current Luanda Airport is nearing completion and work to upgrade the Catumbela and Bengo airports should finish next year, Carla Marques said.

Luanda’s new international airport, located in Bom-Jesus 40 km from the capital, should become operational in 2014, she added.

That airport occupies an area of 10,000 hectares and is being built by a consortium of Chinese companies and Brazil’s Odebrecht. (macauhub)
