heres a vote for the Sabah Convention center and a thumbs down for the proposed Administrative Complex! The Admin complex is very ugly, they should go ahead with the Convention Center proposal and include an admin complex within it.

In my opinion, i don't think there's a need to build an Admin Centre costing RM 388 million?? This money should be used to improve the infrastructure and provide the much needed amenities to the people especially those who are living in the rural areas.

University Malaysia Sabah to develop education hub in Alamesra, KK
By Wong Mei Kay of theedgeproperty.com
Wednesday, 27 July 2011 12:57

KUALA LUMPUR: A proposed 5-acre education hub will be developed in the Alamesra township in Kota Kinabalu.

The proposed project consists of a five-storey office tower, a 27-storey serviced apartment tower, a 7-storey boutique hotel, a medical centre housed in two blocks of 5-storeys and other facilities such as a gymnasium, sundry shops and recreational facilities. It will be developed by the commercial arm of University Malaysia Sabah (UMS), UMS Link Holdings Sdn Bhd (ULink) starting from February next year.

Located on a prime site within Alamesra, the pristine education hub facing the popular 1Borneo Hypermall will be called UMS Link International Precinct. Scheduled to be completed in 2015, the project will be developed on s private funding initiative amounting to approximately RM172.2 m.

ULink director Prof Dr Roselina Ahmad Saufi said the project will be developed using the Purchase, Built, Lease and Transfer (PBLT) model. She was speaking after the signing of the Sale and Purchase Agreement in respect of the 5-acre land between Lintasan Mayang Development Sdn Bhd and Goldenmas Development Sdn Bhd on July 22, 2011.

Goldenmas Development will after acquiring the plot from Lintasan Mayang Development, the land owner and developer of Alamesra, develop the said project and subsequently lease it to ULink for a period of 30 years, after which the property and land ownership will be transferred to Ulink.

The site is part of the commercial plot known as Alamesra Plaza Utama, a 23.2-acre commercial land fronting the Sulaman Coastal Highway.

Also present at the signing were Lintasan Mayang Development executive director Eddie Chai, Goldenmas Development directors Lee Ah Soo and Mustafa Kamil Mohamed, ULink Group chairman Datuk K Y Mustafa and senior group manager for corporate services, legal and governance Yusak [email protected]

The concept of the building design shall reflect a "Techno-Tourism" concept that portrays modernisation and innovation. ULink targets to build the office tower and serviced apartments first. The tower will eventually be used as its corporate office. It will also house the office premises and classrooms for the UMS Centre for External Education (UCEE), UMS Link Centre for professional development.

The student tower/serviced apartment tower is expected to house 2,000 students upon completion, said Rozelina.

The proposed medical centre will offer general medical services, and will accomodate 100 beds, while the boutique hotel will have 74 rooms. There are plans for the hospitality and medical students at UMS to do their practical studies at these facilities.

It has been observed that the value and favourability of the properties within Alamesra had enjoyed considerable appreciation in value over the past few years. Goldenmas Development project director Willy Lee estimates that the project would generate nearly RM700 million in rental revenue over the 30-year lease term before ownership of the properties and land are transferred to ULink.

any signboard put up to confirm its an apartment at tanjung aru?
one thing that I've notice is that they didn't utilize crane tower for the building which is telling us that the building would be less than 12-storey

1. one place mall will topped up at 11-storey

2. two crane tower working on surian residence can be seen from the kepayan highway

3. house demolished at bulatan nenas is fenced up by zinc sheets....development taking shape soon?

4. metal bars are installed behind foh sang shop areas facing damai road....covered roof for the market?

5. Queen Elizabeth 1 reached 3-storey while partly of it complete at 5-storey

That's the thing. There is a sign there, but no description of the project. Only list of the developers, architects, etc.. The developer is Pembinaan Mutunik Sdn. Bhd. Searched the developer but zero results. Looking at this angle just makes it look more like an apartment/ residential building.

Other updates:
Putatan Platinum Apartments

Two last remaining blocks awaiting to be cladded.

More photos on this project here: http://s252.photobucket.com/albums/hh22/kaykayboy/

Another apartment or office building in Putatan Jaya (next to the Platinum Apartments). Can be partially seen from the main road.

One Place Mall

Lintas Station converting to an office building.

The Premier Tower is called Peak Vista Awana, according to their website.

Jesselton Residences

And lastly, the clearing site at Nenas Hill. Took it before it was fenced up.

Phew, that's it for now.

Its already being questioned with Free Malaysia today, they are doing a coverage on it but the damning question remains, what happened to the convention center ? was really looking forward to that, and how come Bina Puri managed to secure the contract with such a horrendous design?

Sabah needs the convention center to capitalise on MICE tourism, not this abomination!

Actually the Convention Center proposal can house the Administrative division if they wanted, why do they need one huge 'palace' just to house government staff ? I was depressed when i saw the design..

If it ever gets built ( that Admin center) I would gladly pay for its demolition if the next government takes power. Good Lord!

In all likelihood, that issue probably none of Bina Puri's concern
Not unless they plan to own the state administrative centre
More likely Bina Puri's purview will be on build quality

I heard the convention centre has been delayed, and the location will be located closer to the city centre, to get advantage of nearby hotels and other amenities.

Being close to the city centre is best for a convention centre.

I remembered last time it was proposed for a Convention Centre to be built near Jesselton Point. Is it the same center?

It's okay to show a pic or video on the cultural and dance such as this but make sure you don't overdo it by spamming the whole page with this because this thread is mainly for development posting. Cheers mate

Usually there will be some description on the signboard but this isn't the first time that I've saw an empty one....any findings on the contractor name?

I've saw somewhere on the plan that describe this as a hotel but it could change anyhow.

The piling is being done slowly....I must say the land is quite small in width size than I could imagine from the render pic...

A big size of land is needed for the convention centre...so could it be integrated as part of Jesselton Waterfront plan? Suria group has plans to start some part of Jesselton waterfront by second quarter of this year but no news so far
