HUSEIN SASTRANEGARA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Bandung, Indonesia

Husein Sastranegara International Airport (Indonesian: Bandar Udara Internasional Husein Sastranegara) (IATA: BDO, ICAO: WICC)[1] is an airport in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. This fast-growing international airport is located 5 km north-west from the city center, 3 km from Bandung Central train station, occupying area of 145 hectares and serves the area of civil aviation in the south western part.

The airport is located in the city of Bandung and is surrounded by mountains, thus landing approach has unique characteristics. This airport handles mid-size aircraft types such as A320, Boeing 737, CASA CN235, F28 and some narrow-body airplanes. Until late 2010, the number of flights (take-off and landing) from the airport reached a new height, of over 30 times a day and increasing rapidly.[2]

History

Husein Sastranegara airport built by Dutch in colonial period, in Andir village. The airport named Andir Airfield. Husein Sastranegara airport is named after Indonesian aviation hero from West Java, Husein Sastranegara.

Terminal & Facilities

Husein Sastranegara has one terminal that used for domestic and international flight. The area of terminal is 2.411,85 m2 and has three floors. Terminal B (all international flights) is being developed. Currently the airport can handle maximum of 1 million passengers per year, and about 2 millions passengers per year when terminal B finished.[3] Passengers can also enjoy facilities of two executive lounges, internet, TV, Mushollah, restaurants, shops and ATM.

While on the north side of the runway, there is a hangar owned by PT Dirgantara Indonesia. Moreover Airport is also equipped with PAPI (Precision Approach Path Indicator) and VOR (VHF omnidirectional range), devices that help the plane landed at night and other navigation tools.

Since 1 February 2009 international flight's passengers are required to pay an airport tax of IDR 75,000.[4]

PT Angkasa Pura II as the airport operator, targeted at mid-year 2010, Airport runway finish to be thickened from Pavement Classification Number (PCN) 37 cm to PCN 52 cm to accommodate a larger body aircraft such as Airbus A320.[5] At April 5, 2011 the 2,250-meter-long runway overlay is less than 50 percent complete, although an Airbus A320 has landed successfully.[6]

Future airport

The Governor of West Java announced that there will be new airport built to replace Husein Sastranegara International Airport, named Bandung Majalengka International Airport. It would be located in Kertajati, Majalengka Regency, some 100 kilometers east of Bandung.
