Police take steps to discipline their drivers

Quote:
MYSORE: It's policing the police in Mysore.

The city cops are focusing on disciplining their drivers and have sought help from the public in their mission.

All that the public need to do is to pass on any information to the police control room about bad behaviour of the cop driving the police vehicle. The cops will verify it by taking out electronic data. For instance, if the driver is violating the one-way norm, you note down the vehicle registration number and alert the control room. The GPS data will nail the erring driver. He will have to pay the fine.

"The police vehicle drivers don't have any exemptions. They have to follow the traffic norms and be role models for other motorists,'' says DCP (traffic) P Rajendra Prasad. "But there are complaints against them too and we are fixing it this way.''

Of 137 vehicles, majority of them four-wheelers attached to the city police, 127 are spotting the contact details with a message to the citizens to complain if the driver is rash and negligent on road. In all, 155 drivers are serving in the city police. The move follows a directive from the DGP. Violations like overspeeding, signal jumping, violating parking rules like parking on the road and at no-parking zones, one-way norm violation, overtaking from wrong direction can be communicated to the cops. Vehicles attached to the police commissioner and three DCPs have been exempted.

The complaint will be scanned by the higher officials and investigate pouring over the electronic data. The cops have fitted with GPS device to jeeps used by inspectors and police control room (PCR) vehicles and Garuda units, both of which are on the move. The GPS data will validate if the complaints like that of one-way violation is true, the DCP stated.

"But will the public assist? Why not? One month back, a motorist objected to a woman police constable speaking on her cellphone while driving. He messaged it to the commissioner of police, who forwarded it to me. I issued a notice to her and she owned up and paid the fine,'' ACP (traffic) Shankaregowda said.

Some of the travel agencies have adopted the practice to keep track on their drivers by giving contact details on the back of the vehicles. The fine amount collected from the public for an offence will have to be paid by the errant drivers too, a police official stated.

HOW TO DO IT

* Public can complain about bad road behaviour of cop vehicle driver
* They should complaint to city control room 2418339
* The complaint will be processed and investigated using electronic data
* Except top cop and DCPs, all other vehicles are on the radar

Mysore, Aug. 2 (HT&SB)- The Mysore City Corporation (MCC), with a view to immortalise the struggle for Independence, is constructing a life-size replica of the famous Dandi March led by Gandhiji at Freedom Fighters Park in Subbarayanakere in city.

Last evening, Mayor Pushpalatha Chikkanna and Dy. Mayor M.J. Ravikumar inspected the work on installing the statues which was near completion. They spoke to the artiste Devaraj of Bangalore's Creative Exposures, who made the statues on the lines of Gyarah Murthy in Delhi.

Later, the Dy. Mayor said the Corporation was honouring the freedom fighters through the installation of the sculptures which will be inaugurated on I-Day. It is being mooted to invite freedom fighters to inaugurate the sculptures, he said adding, a final decision will be taken at a meeting of all Corporators. Another sculpture depicting the hanging of Bhagat Singh and four other freedom fighters by the British will also be installed in the park.
Where is this freedom fighters park?

Want to browse, carry your identity card

Quote:
If you want to get access to internet at your nearest cybercafe, make sure you bring along an identity proof complete with photograph and address or get ready to be turned away.

Getting access to internet which was very easy earlier, provided you manage to get a system to browse has now become tougher. Thanks to the city cops, who have come with a novel idea of introducing CLINCK software to check cyber crime cases.

A woman, who had come to check her LPG status at one of the cyber cafes in city by browsing the internet, was disappointed as she was not allowed to browse for she had not carried her identity card. She was politely denied by the employee who asked her to bring her identity card as it has become mandatory to register the details of the cyber users.

A college student who luckily carried his identity card heaved a sigh of relief but when he was asked for a xerox copy of the same, he had no other choice as to search for a xerox centre or for another internet centre.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, a cyber cafe owner said that though everyone were allowed easy access to internet earlier, after a meeting held recently, organised by the city cops, it was decided to make it mandatory from August 1, to collect the necessary details of the user until the software is installed and make the procedure a little stricter to prevent cyber crime.

There are not many sensational cyber crimes that has come to fore in the city, but the recent step of the Mysore police to introduce CLINCK software, in association with a private company has been welcomed by the cyber cafe owners also.

The CLINCK software is being given free of cost to the cyber cafes and would be installed at all the cafes in city by August 4.

Though some cyber cafes at important junctions of the city near colleges have already installed the software, others are yet to be equipped with the software.

The visitors to the cafes (where software is installed) have to register for any access to terminals and internet and will be given single login ID. The information and data backup will be done on CLINCK servers, that includes storage of photo, photo ID, address, contacts e-register etc.

So if you want to get access to internet at one of the cyber cafes, please don’t forget to carry your identity cards or at least until all the cyber cafes are installed with the specified software.
