THE Goldilocks chain of bakeshops, among the first local companies to open outlets in the North America, is aggressively expanding domestically even as it has no plans of selling out to fast food conglomerates, a company official said yesterday.

"That’s a dead issue," Lin E. Deres, Goldilocks franchise relations manager, said when asked if new suitors have approached the owners of the company.

Deres said Goldilocks hopes to open 30 more stores to expand coverage in Northern Luzon and Mindanao.

She said the Northern Luzon expansion is made possible by the company’s investment in a new commissary in Rosales, Pangasinan.

Goldilocks has over a hundred stores nationwide, half of which are company-owned and the balance operated as a franchise.

The company is also planning to expand facilities in Mindanao so it can set up more stores on the island.

Goldilocks maintains a cake plant, a food plant and a bread plant in separate locations in Mandaluyong to service Metro Manila outlets.

Deres said Goldilocks has plants in Cabuyao in Laguna, as well as in Cebu, Iloilo and Davao.

"We see a lot of opportunities in Northern Luzon, Visayas and in Mindanao. We already have a lot of branches in Metro Manila and in Luzon," Deres said.

Deres said when Goldillocks joined the recent Philippine Franchise Association-Department of Trade and Industry caravan, it attracted a lot of interest in Tuguegarao in the North and Butuan in the South.

Of the 100 or so local stores, half are in the Visayas and Mindanao.

Deres said Goldilock’s expansion will rely primarily on franchising, with more bakeshops than full stores expected.

Goldilocks has 23 outlets in the United States, two in Canada and five in Bangkok. All the branches abroad are co-owned.

Deres said Goldilocks is also eyeing the Middle East and Europe where there are pockets of Filipino communities.

"But we do not talk with just the Filipinos in these areas. It’s important to be mainstream," said Deres.

Investment in a bakeshop is between P6 million and P8 million, which covers the franchise fee and cost of construction, equipment, point of sales system and a delivery truck. A bakeshop ranges from 60 square meters to 80 sq.m. in size. For a full store, investment is P10 million to P13 million. Full stores have an area of from 150 sq.m. to 200 sq.m.

As Goldilocks, which was set up in 1966 by sisters Milagros Leelin Yee and Clarita Leelin Go, remains privately owned, its financials are not readily available.

It was reported that Pancake House of the Lorenzo family offered to buy Goldilocks for P1.5 billion in 2006 after the latter’s No.1 competitor, Red Ribbon, was acquired by Jollibee Foods Corp.

Goldilocks started as a hobby of the Leelin sisters. Despite the name based on the Western fairy tale character, the company and its products have always been pitched as distinctly Filipino, one of factors credited by Goldilocks owners for its success locally and in communities abroad with significant Filipino presence.

MANILA, Philippines - The people of CAUAYAN CITY, know that every RC Cola bottle means so much more than 240 mls of refreshing soft drink. In July, Isabelanons welcomed the opening of the

RC Cola manufacturing plant in the area, along with the socio-economic benefits that a successful and responsible business can deliver to their community.

The modern, fully operational plant in Cauayan City will produce all soft drink products of Asiawide Refreshments Corporation (ARC) including RC Cola, the century-old international brand with headquarters in Columbus, Georgia, USA. The manufacturing plant is expected to produce jobs, drive down distribution costs for business partners, and satisfy the cola thirst of Isabela and the neighboring provinces.

“We are hiring employees (for the new plant) from the same area; this way, we would also be able to help generate local employment,” reports Gerry Garcia, executive vice president and chief operating officer of ARC. Job creation is only one of various positive outcomes of the presence of RC Cola’s manufacturing hub there.

The Cauayan plant is the sixth in the company’s programmed expansion in Northern Luzon to Mindanao, and continues to provide new business opportunities for existing and potential soft drink dealers, sub-dealers, retailers and suppliers. Garcia continues, “Aside from being able to hire employees from the community and nearby towns, retail outlets can also gain quick, convenient access to our plant, while benefiting from reduced distribution costs since the plant is located within our distribution area.”

Executives of ARC recognize that a big part of overall business sustainability is maintaining a dynamic, positive relationship with the host community. “Just as in Manila and Davao where a lot of people depend on RC Cola for their livelihood, we want our Isabela plant to positively impact the lives of our workers and partners.” Throughout less than a decade of operations nationwide, ARC has involved itself in environmental initiatives, was hailed as among the top taxpayers in a city where one of its bottling plants is located, and has since earned back-to-back recognition from the Laguna Lake Development Authority for its consistent and successful compliance with environmental standards.

The brand reemerged in the domestic market in 2003 and today, a mere eight years later, it has put the Philippines on the cola map as the country with the most units of RC Cola consumed all over the world.
Officers and staff of Asiawide Refreshments Corporation raise the “No. 1” sign.

The fact that Filipinos have embraced an international brand like RC Cola as their own is a telling sign of the kind of product it represents for the Pinoy: a “third option” that offers affordable, delicious cola that wins in taste tests against other cola brands. “Consumers are happy to discover this quality product that suits the Filipino taste, and yet doesn’t put a strain on their budget,” says Garcia. That a quality product also creates opportunities for Pinoys through jobs gives a whole new dimension to the product’s catchphrase, “RC ng Bayan.”

@nightfury... kapatid im a regular visitor of santiago, tuguegarao and region II thread.. we are one here.. we are in region II.. my sharing here, particularly the hinduja call center i think hindi offensive and dating sa iyo at sa inyong lahat.. im sharing it to know every one that our region is developing.. pag na open ang call center na yan, hindi exclusively para sa mga taga tuguegarao lang yan.. im sharing it for others na may potential na maging part ng call center.. maraming taga cagayan na nagtratrabaho sa isabela at marami din mga taga isabela na nagtratrabho at nag aaral sa tuguegarao.. we are one here, malay mo ikaw o isa mga forumer dito makuha sa call center na yun...

i think youre new here in skyscraper... walang insecure sa mga forumers dito lalo na sa mga dati na tulad ko... but i think si kapatid na JUNAR ay medyo out of place ang sharing niya, dapat nga sa tuguegarao lang.. ibahin moko kabayan.. para sa kin medyo kaiba nga ang acceptance niyo sa sharing niya..

coz your post is out of place..that's for tugue's/cagayan's development not for santiago and isabela, you can post it naman sa regional thread this thread is exclusively for isabela. at kung mapapansin mo sa Metro Manila thread, walang nagpopost ng developments ng Manila sa thread ng Bulacan, Cavite, Rizal or Laguna, kasi out of place nga kahit sabihin nating para naman sa lahat ang project na yan..kasi parang gustong sabihin na "oh meron na kami nito, kayo wala pa..kami ang sasalo sa inyo" something like that

im a regular forumer here since im in 3rd year high school pa. change username lang kasi di na appropriate ang dati kong username sa identity ko ngayon

Hi. Regarding Anton's post. Ok nman. Given his previous posts and contribution to the thread, I think his post is in the form of an invitation.

Yung kay Junar naman, considering his other posts and comments, may gustong ipahiwatig. Out of place talaga post nya.

If you want to contest something, just raise your points bro. Pwedeng daanin yan sa makabuluhang debate. Kung ano yung sa tingin mo ay kasinungalingan, state them specifically, then make your arguments. Then let the other claimant make their defense. Dyan masesettle natin ang conflicts and baka may matutunan pa tayong bago.
