This is the LST Valdivia ex USS San Bernardino, a Newport Class which has been sold bu USA to Chile.

Morocco also bought 1 and is in discuss for an other.

Both countries didn't made big changement on the ship.

Australian Royal Navy bought 2 and has completly transformed them :

I hope you'll have it !

We are going to buy a new Newport class LST and it's a bad choice. A LHD Foudre class (Foudre or Sirocco) will be much more interesant.

La Foudre bientôt vendue au Chili ?

Le TCD Foudre
crédits : JEAN-LOUIS VENNE

21/01/2011

Foudre sold to Chile soon?

21/01/2011

Transport landing craft Foudre could, in some time, becoming Chile. No such announcement has been reached but the authorities in Santiago seem interested in the French BPC, which will be prematurely laid up in the commissioning of the building projection and command Diksmuide. Currently being completed in Saint-Nazaire, the third type of BPC Mistral must join Toulon in the summer and be operational in early 2012.
Chilean side, the "timing" seems to correspond well, particularly since the Navy has decided to disarm its single large unit "amphibious," the Landing Ship Tank Valdivia (ex-USS San Bernardino), a former U.S. LST type Newport News. The United States seems he proposed another building of its kind in Chile, apparently the USS Tuscaloosa, but this was not accepted.

With the Foudre, the Chilean navy would probably a better deal by taking advantage of a sale as an opportunity to acquire a more modern unit offering increased capabilities. Commissioned in 1990, the Foudre measure 168 meters long and has a displacement of 12,000 tons burden. That can carry nearly 500 troops and a hundred vehicles, including tanks, this TCD has a raft that can accommodate eight landing craft-type MLC. With a hangar for four helicopters, it is also home to hospital facilities developed and can serve as a command ship.

Foudre is at Toulon for a refurbishment. The ship will be discomissed in summer 2012 after reception of BPC Dixmude (an LHD MIstral class, the 3rd). Brasil, Argentina, Chile ... nothing official.

y aqui vienen algunos regalitos
